Nope. Only the light is unscrewed. The reason, as it was explained to me,
is that the refridgerator compressor turns on and off based on a temperature
change which is not *directly* coupled to opening the door. The lamp is
directly coupled by the little push-button switch in the door hinge area.

They probably think the same thing about you. The difference is they're
right.

and so it begins...

Sounds like schedules would be acceptable
but any tripping of devices by them walking
would not be.

If it's automated and is not triggered by things that people do it's
probably OK.

So they are not suppose to drive, take a cab or even take a bus to the
synagogue ? If they are living on the 20th floor of a highrise, they will
have to take the stairs ?

Too much for any normal brain. Religious
zealots are the curse of society...

Curiously, the word zealot actually comes from the name for a group of
palestinian Jews who fought for freedom from the Romans in the first century
AD.
Fanatics who fly planes in to buildings, let
children die without blood transfusions,
disfiguring surgery, the list goes on...

None of those things has ever been attributed to any Orthodox Jewish group.
The only thing these folks do is try to obey God's law (as they understand
it). If limiting their own (not your) activity at certain times makes them
feel closer to God, what is that to you?
Pick a war, any war, I bet it had something
to do with a religion or religious beliefs...

The Iraq war is not being fought over religious beliefs. It was started for
one reason only -- to win the George W Bush another term. It worked, too.

It's probably better that they don't drive anyway.

During Shabos and Yom Tov, no. The families walk to synagogue.

the stairs ?

If your religion is that central to your life, you don't choose an apartment
on the twentieth floor or buy a home more than a Sabbath day's journey
(2,000 cubits, which is something like half a mile) from the synagogue.

Bear in mind that these people almost never proselytize. They won't tell
you what you can do on the Sabbath. In fact, most couldn't care less what
the goyim do. They only try to follow these rules themselves because they
believe it's what God wants.

Not the current Iraqi conflict. That is George W's mess entirely. Even
when Maddass Hussein was in power it had nothing to do with religion. His
only concern was building wealth and power for himself and his evil sons.
He didn't care about Allah, Buddha, Hari Krishna or Bob Dylan -- just money
and power..

Hmm. Now that I think of it, that's a lot like some of our TV preachers.

Here is what we know for sure, so far. Journalist Arnon Regular wrote,
in the June 26 edition of Ha'aretz (Israel's most reputable newspaper),
that he has minutes of a meeting among top-level Palestinian leaders,
including Prime Minister Mahmoud Abas. The minutes are apparently quite
detailed, because Regular wrote a long article recounting very specific
conversations. The last paragraph of the article reads:

"According to Abbas, Bush said: 'God told me to strike at al Qaida and I
struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did,
and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you
help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have
to focus on them.'"

Oh yea Abbas, he's a GREAT source <snicker>

That is a foolish statement, to do nothing would have gotten him a second
term

Reminds me of something I saw on TV once, a group of monks in I think India
who had these helpers sweep in front of their feet as they walked to prevent
them from harming even the smallest insects. Funny part was they ate meat
which was prepared by others since THEY couldn't do it themselves

Stupid beliefs

It's probably better that they don't drive anyway.

Hmm. We were discussing methods of controlling security systems for
Orthodox Jews and that reminded you of Indian monks eating meat. OK, I'm
pretty sure there's a name for that... :^)

Different option, change the panel. The paradox digiplex 848 panel has
a shabbat feature built in. One downside is that the motions have to be
changed, they are digital and they run on the combus this enables the
control panel to control the led. One upside you can also change the
motion settings from the keypad or downloading. I have found the people
who this feature is important to don't mind upgraging to this system.
Check the mfg web sit at http://www.paradox.ca for more info
