A photoresistor naturally increases its resistance in the dark preventing power to the output of the circuit. While in the light, its resistance decreases and allows power to the output. Is there a way to reverse the light and dark effect on the photoresistor? So resistance will decrease in the dark and increase in the light, turning on in the dark and turning off in the light?

I do not think that there is a reverse photoresistor but a single transistor can reverse the action.

you have been given two good answers
to take those answers a bit further with two basic circuits that could be added to
