Hi,

I'm currently wiring my workshop lights up and they will be turned on automatically on door entry via alarm panel.

The output from alarm triggers a relay which in turn feeds the normal light switch in case i want to switch some or all lights off individually.

That's all fine, but then I thought about an override in case i have a relay or alarm panel failure. There are numerous ways to do this and I am just looking for better ideas.

I thought about placing a SPDT switch before the relay feed taking one arm to the relay and the other to the light switch, then the load side of the relay also goes to the light switch.

Only thing i don't like about this layout is that there is some back feed on the load side of the relay when the override is switched. Not that this is a problem, i just don't like it. I know i could use another relay but that's not an option. See attachment for my wonderful schematic:D

Any better ideas?

Ta

I am not sure I understand your concern.

why not use a spdt switch centre off. if the alarm system is faulty and the relay is locked on then you can just switch it to off until the alarm is fixed.
