I would like to find out how much power my refrigerator is using over the
course of month.

Are there any inexpensive watt-hour meters on the market? Something I could
build with my AC ammeter?

Thanks for any input

If you know the power it uses when on, you could wire an electric analog
clock on to the compressor and it will show how many houre it is running.

how about the use of digital multimer is there a way a person can use one as
a watt meter to measure how power is being used?

Well, sort of. You can measure (RMS) current and (RMS) voltage and
multiply them together, but since you can't measure power factor, your
number will be higher than the real power you are drawing from the
power company.

[However, homepower generators and inverters are current limited, so
current drawn is a useful number there.]

OTOH, real watt-hour meters aren't expensive...
