I assume by that, you never owned an Omni or Horizon.

They were truly marvelous examples of automotive technology
compared to the Gremlin.

It's all a matter of perspective. My brother had one that had a 350
Chevy engine in it that would do 2 foot or better wheel stands, and about
a ten second quarter mile. He traded that for a corvair that had a
corvette motor in the back seat. He traded that for a nice Moto Guzzi.

Mine had the Continental 323CID straight six. After three years and
35K miles it was the only thing that still worked and I'd already
raided every junk yard I could find. Auburn clutch? Vacuum
windshield wiper motor? What a piece of shite.

I was going to say that the 74 Gremlin that I had back in the day
wasn't all *that* bad but that reminds me of the time spent under an
interstate overpass (to get out of the rain) taking apart and
reassembling the windshield wiper gearbox - without the right tools
and with no idea of what it looked like inside...

Try pulling the tranny, finding the clutch isn't like anything
manufactured in the last 30 years. Of course the windshield wiper
motor was a dinosaur too. It worked when braking and stopped when
the go-faster petal was pressed.

I always thought it would look good as a souped up car for the race strip. I
remember the SCRambler and AMX, kinda cool.

Now THAT car seems to me to be the dog of the seventies. The engine is
halfway inside the passenger compartment!

Interesting I still see the occasional Omni or Horizon on the road. I
also see some vintage Granada's running around too.

Hell, Dimmie, I'm glad we're not still using *tape* recorders.

The one I had, had the VW engine in it. The block and some other
parts were metric. The manifold were in inches. Unfortunately
someone couldn't multiply by 2.54. The parts simply did not fit
together right.

Later they stopped using VW parts.
