What happens if you plug the cable just into the socket without the socket being soldered to the PCB?. Only cable+socket, nothing else.

By the way: for the cost of the two sockets plus PCB you could have bought a suitable cable having the right connectors.

Is there a reason you have connected GND to the shield of the Aconnector?

Have you ohmed the pinout on the connectors? One of your solderings looks cold, it's very pearly.

This shows that the plug and socket seem to be o.k.
So only your PCB and solderwork remain as the source of the problem.re-check them thoroughly.

Let's try this step by step:
1) de-solder both connectors from the PCB
2) plug cable into the type B connector.
If o.k., proceed
If not o.k., check the type B connector
3) solder type B connector to PCB and repeat check no. 2.
If o.k., proceed
If not o.k., check the PCB and the soldering of type B
4) solder type A connector to PCB and repeat check no. 2.
If o.k., proceed
If not o.k., check the PCB and the soldering of type A
5) plug converter into type A connector
If o.k., proceed
If not o.k., check converter

I'm sorry, I'm running out of ideas otherwise.

Okay. Good steps. Will try it although quite troublesome.

Thank you :D

Shouldnt make any difference .... I checked several motherboards and the negative pin of the USB is connected to the shiels of the USB

@Vic but why, out of curiosity, connect it to ONLY the USB A connector rather than both of them ??

1.a) Ohm and verify contact between all terminals on A and B connector. A hairline fracture is not easy to see.
