Why are PCB's green on the trace side

Anyone know why PCB's are green on the trace side. If yes then what is that material and where can one get it.

FlipFlop, the material you see on the boards is called solder mask. It is cured at about 300 degrees F after it is silked onto the boards. Normal quantity is 5 gallon container or larger.
For the hobbyist, you can get a similar spray on material. I have seen it at www.pulsar.gs in the past. I am not sure if they still carry it, but if not, an e-mail to them might send you in the right direction.

There is a paint spray out there:

That's it's great for PCB coating paint.

In addition to stopping corrosion of traces, the solder-mask saves manufacturers the cost of extra solder and its weight in the product.
