DVD-R drive laser tracking modification...

Hi,

First of all I am new to electronics, so I don't know which section of the forum to post this in.

Basiclly what I want to do, is kind of modify my dvd-r drive so that it burns discs slightly different.

What I need help with is modyfying my Sony DRU-710AK dvd-rw drives laser tracking.

I want to modify it so that it can burn mis-aligned pits. (aka pits that are not centred on the ATIP wobble/ data track)

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out/ especially if they have msn messenger.

Also, does nayone know where I can get the chipset data sheet for my drive? (sony DRU-710AK)

Hi Lillster,

Welcome to this forum,
From what I have heard, in some drives there is a software controlled alignment system. Maybe it’s controlled from the software in your computer or you have to “flash” the firmware in the drive.

I agree with Ante, Lillster, is this DVD-R drive in your PC?

If so you might be able to download a driver or some other special peice of software.

I definitely wouldn't mess around with a DVD drive if I were you, they are put together with great precision and they contain a laser that could be very dangerious.

I would most likely have to flash the firmware then. :( Which is a problem you see because no one seems willing to help.

A dissassembled firmware of a popular drive, with comments would be nice.
