Each one has a part number and has certain specifications for max voltage, max current and max power (heating). There are also many other spec's for transistors. The manufacturers publish a datasheet for each transistor. Many manufacturers make the same transistors with the same numbers and with the same spec's.Electronic product manufacturers sometimes order millions of transistors and have their own "house numbers" written on them so that the spec's are unknown and replacements must be bought from them (at a very high price).
