volume control

Recommended Posts

A volume control has been a variable resistor for many years.
A transistor can mute the sounds but is not a volume control. A transistor can make a sudden change in level (a jerk) when it is in a voltage divider.

Many years ago electric guitar people made a volume control with a Jfet transistor as an attenuator but it caused a lot of distortion (that guitar people like).

You want a jerk, jerk, jerk attenuator that has steps (jerk, jerk) of attenuation that can be done with a transistor. A variable resistor used as a volume control does not JERK.
