Hello,

The LM3915 shows 3 dB steps.
With each step twice the volume is shown.

so I think I read we hear logarithmically too are these frequencies feasible shown below, these are for the different columns
  1. 45 Hz
  2. 64 Hz
  3. 91 Hz
  4. 128 Hz
  5. 181 Hz
  6. 256 Hz
  7. 362 Hz
  8. 512 Hz
  9. 724 Hz
  10. 1024 Hz
  11. 1448 Hz
  12. 2048 Hz
  13. 2896 Hz
  14. 4096 Hz
  15. 5792 Hz
  16. 8192 Hz
  17. 11585 Hz
  18. 16384 Hz (16 kHz)
  19. is this correct and it means that the bass frequencies are further apart at the bass levels and tighter at the high pitch tones, or the other way around where the bassy frequencies are closer together and the the high frequencies are further apart
or are they both wrong and we just evenly space the frequencies??

Hello,

The LM chips will be on every frequency channel to show the volume on that channel.

what I am struggling with is how to space the frequencies
like evenly spaced between 45Hz and 16kHz
or do you choose them logarithmically spaced
for a tone that, nevermind did a quich search and answered my own question!
cheers!!

Hello,

The way you arranged the frequencies is just fine.

I could only hear between 45Hz an 10kHz so these are the new bands:
  1. 45 Hz
  2. 64 Hz
  3. 91 Hz
  4. 128 Hz
  5. 181 Hz
  6. 256 Hz
  7. 362 Hz
  8. 512 Hz
  9. 724 Hz
  10. 1024 Hz
  11. 1448 Hz
  12. 2048 Hz
  13. 2896 Hz
  14. 4096 Hz
  15. 5792 Hz
  16. 8192 Hz
  17. thanks

Ok so I know I've been pointed here to make the pre-amplifyer https://www.epanorama.net/circuits/micamp.html
but I would like to know if I can buy one in chip form for electret microphone because I want as minimal noise as possible. I am able to make the circuit suggested and have the parts too, but from what I read it's a bit noisy, can that be negligable or will one ready made in a dip type package be much better as in their effects in perfomance, cheers

Hello,

Here is a simple one that has gain control:
Electret mic preamp.PNG
You can also use one part of the TL074 for it.

Hello,

Have a look at fig 8 of the following page:
It shows the connections on the mic.

Hello,

Yes, the (-) goes to the GND and the (+) goes to the MIC.

I'm going to be running the led matrix and the LM3914 with 12v should I just get a regulator for the 9v on the pre amp gain circuit if not the I assume all ground are connected, as in common ground?

can you light all the LED's to maximum brightness by a minimal signal, say light 20 leds from 9v in the second video, can you make it so that 20 led's light with say 5v instead

I am able to make the circuit as show but wondered if its possible to choose the sensitivity of the LED's illuminating with a provided signal?
