    Guitar Amp power problems

Short out the switch and see if that is giving you problems. It may just need a squirt of cleaner.

Automotive related question regarding specificity of diode.

And also make sure you have a good earth from chassis to engine block. The light is usually around 2w which supplies power to excite the windings.

how many amps does it take to kill someone?

"It's the volts that jolts, and the mils that kills." A small current will stop your heart beating, but if you have enough voltage AND current, (like, say a lightning bolt), you will turn into a burnt sausage.

problem with the table saw motor. Please help!

Have a look at the commutator, the mica insulation in between the segments may be worn level with the commutator, resulting in the brushes skipping over the mica and sparking. The mica should be just below the commutator surface, so the brushes only ride on the comm. An old sawblade ground to a...

    Faraday Cube

If you can sneak a few metres of hook-up wire out of the window and just let it hang in the breeze, it will probably be enough to pull in a few local stations.

If you need an "off" position, you can use a DPDT centre off switch.

Original way to use car radio as a garage radio

And make sure the antenna is not touching any metal part of the shed, you won't receive any signals that way. I used to run car cassette players in the shed for many years using "dead" car batteries ( not good enough to start a car, but will run the radio for many weeks), with a charge up every...

    Circuit Sealant question

Neutral cure silicon (like the ones used in aquariums) is OK for potting up electronics. Takes a little longer to go off when it is thick. There are resin potting mixes available for encapsulating boards, it flows better around and under components.

    Sharp RT-3388a solenoid/plunger not working

When you say the solenoid tests good, do you mean you have applied power and seen it work? I am asking because I have seen solenoid windings heat up and expand, jamming the plunger, but they still check ok with a meter.

    Battery Charger rewire help

The output of the transformer is AC- then it becomes DC after being rectified. Not really sure what you are trying to do here. And 200 Amps? That transformer would be as big as a washing machine!

    can I charge 12.8-volt battery with a 15v charger

You would have to check what your maximum input voltage for your BMS is.

HOW TO Convert 12v to 13v

Have you actually measured the output of the plug pack? They may say 12VDC, but the no-load voltage could be as high as 16vdc. Then you just need to go through a variable 3 terminal voltage regulator, as long as the under load voltage is above 13 volts.

Araldite Rapid, Cyanoacrylate & PCB material.. does it stick?

I have only found 1 glue which worked with Polypropylene, It was an epoxy which had "microspheres" in it, and was very expensive. Polypropylene does not like to be glued, and silicon tends to peel off. Besides the expensive epoxy, heat welding with a filler rod works, but only if joining to the...

    Microwave sparking from side panel

There is a consumer law similar to the one in NZ here in Australia, which concerns the expected life of an appliance. This is to stop manufacturers telling you to get lost if your appliance fails a month after the warranty period. I have returned a printer that had died after 18 months of a 12...

    Transistor as a switch

Resistors are your friend here. You could put a trimpot in the base circuit, then measure the collector current as the base CURRENT is varied. At some point your transistor will get very hot and let all the smoke out, this is the best way of understanding how they practically work. This is what...

Best IC Assortment, both Linear and Logic.

How I started- a handful of 555's (maybe a couple of 556's), some 741's, a couple of 386's, and some of the often used (but maybe not so much nowadays ) 74(TTL)& 40(CMOS) series logic gates . Many years ago the electronics stores would have "grab bags" of components for a couple of bucks, but...

Testing Current of AC-to-DC converter module without load

Incandescent light globes also make cheap loads , you can work out the current from the wattage, then check with an ammeter (in series with the load of course!).
