Help repairing fish tank led light

Ebay has bags of these, 100 for a couple of bucks... I don't suspect the LEDs at fault but the copper tracks under the leds, they could be rusted... Desolder (keep note on the polarity of each led, a little cut out corner of each led, they match going back on) look for rust or eaten tracks

    Laptop won't do anything.

I tried compressed air on a 5 year old laptop, chunks of dirt refused to budge and the laptop would shutdown at 30c room temp! I had to remove the gpu/cpu heatsinks then remove the fan and then disassemble it, remove all the crap Now instead of burning your leg on a cold day the heat goes out...

    Would this transistor work?

That's still way cheaper than buying a furnace not getting the precise temperature right then coming out with paper clips Even the japanese struggled without high precision hardware, they bounced light off the temperature gauge which then showed up on the wall where the tinest needle turn...

    Most efficient 1v boost circuit.

The ebay one is actually the same circuit design as the attached image Results in, joule thief lasted for 2 days, the first circuit i posted lasted 4 1/2 days (all brand new 2.4amp energizer aa nimh) But the QX5252 is the winner lasting for 5 days, to make it fair i used the same 330uh...

You want to be dope silicon to create a transistor?

    Getting kids into electronics

However now though.... i think it would be fun now i understand electronics :) Kit vs breadboard, a new breadboard for $5 is cheaper than buying a new machine if you like the circuit, or perfboard it...

    Getting kids into electronics

At about 9 or so my dad brought home a 200 in 1 machine, loaded it up with batteries, then i would flip through the book of circuits and make the simple but interesting ones... Absolutely no educational value for me, the compinents were not explained, i've not been a fan of them.. The best way...

    Battery Voltage Dilemma!

240vac to 12v 15amp via pc psu From there into the atx mini car thingy, that powers the pc... if Harald is correct i can simply charge the battery with a regular lead charger (15amp one) and supply the mini atx car supply and pc from that.. But the specs, really does say 12.8v max input, but...

    Nokia N96 Recovery

You'll need a temperature controlled heat gun (i use a paint stripper heat gun) The chip is a bga style, basically blobs of solder act as the pins, heat up the chip until it easily lifts away using tweezers, then move the chip to the new n96 board... Careful to not knock any tiny capacitors or...

    Battery Voltage Dilemma!

I've decided i'm going to make a UPS for my pc, however ditching the need for a PSU in a blackout.. (eg power it directly by battery and the desktop psu becomes the power supply and charger) My idea was to buy a car mini atx however it requires 12v max (a car's alternator / 13.8v) looks like it...

    Nokia N96 Recovery

The moisture would have simply caused a short or it starts to eat away at the copper tracks.. I don't know much about the n96, but there should be an emmc chip on the main board you can lift off and put onto the good phone, but it's not that easy for a newbie.. However, if rust and a little...

Trying to identify and locate component or suitable replacement

Yup that "short" is normal after all it is just a coil of wire... Got a photo of the board?

    Most efficient 1v boost circuit.

The joule thief is surprisingly not that good unlesd you have a high inductance going, the one in the photo has already doubled the life of the regular joule thief!

    Most efficient 1v boost circuit.

I've been simulating a few 1v boost circuits out of boredom, looking for the most energy efficient circuit(s) And all of them, this one (attached) image seems to be the winner for a realitively low number of components, i built this circuit last night and 12 hours later it's still just as bright!

    2N3055's and heat

John it's all fun and games until you forget you left it on then you'll whinge a little when you burn your hand on it lol (been there done that with a heatsink to dissipate say 1 or 2 watts, but i was actually losing about 20 watts across it lol that burn took ages to heal lol Basically...

    2N3055's and heat

OK fair enough there could be too much noise for his needs... however a nice capacitor / inductor combo to filter out the noise should suffice, but you could then use an lm317 and pass transistor(s) My only concern was the huge power waste going on, you'll need a hell of a heatsink lol

    2N3055's and heat

Why in earth would you use a linear regulator in the first place? Total waste of power, a switching regulator is much much more preferable in this instance

Need help identifying this resistor's wattage.

I think the resistor you need is a 3w maybe 5w but i think 5w come in ceramic cases?
