    That's what it's designed to do, stick to rubber. There are different brands, do a search on it. You can do a continuity test with a meter to check the back of the rubber buttons. They may have used a conductive grease.

    You are testing for 12 volts AC so set your meter to the next number above 12 on the AC voltage scale. It could be 40 or what ever is greater than 12 on your specific meter.

    Take the black lead from your meter and place it on something that is known to be grounded like an electrical box or cold water pipe then probe the inside and outside of the barrel plug with the red lead.

    Have you tried testing with the negative meter lead to a known ground?

    From what I've read this is common with these Sunbeam blankets. There might be a microcontroller in the blanket causing the problem.

    You can test all the 10 amp fuses in the picture with a 12 volt test light to see if there is 12 volts across both sides of the fuse when the key is off.     If that's the 50 amp fuse it's way too much for what you are adding to it. This requires a 10 gauge wire, too heavy for what you need.
