On my new thread, Martin suggested to stick with this circuit, as it is easier than the new one I picked, Upon reconsideration, I agree. So I am going to abandon the new thread- i will see if i can make a not there if i can't delete it, and move back here.

    The Adventure Continues......

Having declared self inflicted failure on a previous thread, I am starting anew with a new circuit that is intended to create an overdrive pedal for my guitar. I have attached the schematic, and in the process of gathering the parts I will need. I have some initial questions: 1. C2 is said to...

Sorry but I have killed the circuit and took it apart. Before doing so, I switched out the op amp, I reversed the polarity of the capacitor that was on backwards, but not. etc. I have found a new circuit that i would like to start fresh with. Should I create a new thread for the new project?

Hi folks: I am officially giving up on this circuit, but I don't consider it a failure. I am convinced of one of the following: Either: 1. The circuit itself is flawed- many people have commented on a capacitor being shown with reverse polarity- maybe that's it? 2. I may have burnt out a...

Thank-you. Sorry but I did not realize that we were in PM mode.

Bertus: Thank-you . That was reassuring. Because I already had an assortment kit of electrolytic capacitors, I replaced the film one with the electrolytic one, when I read Audioguru's post. I will probably leave it as is, as it is already soldered and your comments suggest that it will likely...

AudioGuru- what i meant to say is that i don't know if you were being sarcastic or whether connecting a polarized electrolytic capacitor backwards, will really produce additional distortion. Can you clarify because, i am getting near the end of this circuit and don't want to blow up a capacitor...

ok...so I will connect it as shown in the original diagram...connected backwards. i hope you were not joking. Being. a newbie, I can't tell

Yes. That is and was clear. But I wanted to know whether it had to be a polarized one. Seems it doesn’t.

ok..I am pausing because I don't want to make a mistake: On a previous thread, Bertus was kind enough to post the polarities of the capacitors in this circuit. It is here: A Stretch The person who designed this circuit, wrote to me a few days ago and said I should use film capacitors, except...

Hi: I will continue along, report my steps, if only for my own sake, and if I run into a specific issue, i will ask. Let's hope it works. By the way, I tried to come up with a way to make easy for people to follow. I thought that if the narrative is read, and one looks at the schematic, it...

Here is my updated steps: Soldered R3 (10K resistor) on PCB. Connected right side of that resistor to C23 ( 470 nF Capacitor) . I used a film capacitor. The package it came in had the following label on it - CAP FILM RDL 0.47 UF 250V 15SL Connected left leg R41 (1M resistor ) to right leg of...

Hi Harald. Thanks for the feedback. I have edited my specification below, adding more detail in terms of which legs of the connectors I am using. Hopefully, that will provide sufficient clarity. Soldered R3 (10K resistor) on PCB. Connected right side of that resistor to C23 ( 470 nF Capacitor)...

Thank you. I use the method you described, in that I have a highlighter that I colour all the connections I make with. The issue for me is not whether I have made a connection or left one out; it’s whether I have correctly interpreted how things connect to each other. That’s why I am telling...

Hi folks. I have changed my approach somewhat, partly because it is starting to get expensive screwing up and then having to buy more parts ;-) I have started the circuit over from scratch. For those who are willing to continue to guide me, I thought I would post my step by step process in...

Thanks Bertus On page 2 of this thread AudioGuru wrote the following: The TL082 dual opamp should not be used, a TL081 single opamp is all you need and if you use a socket for it then you can easily replace the opamp with a different one. I purchased the TL081 single opamp as recommended and...

I wonder if I purchased the wrong kind of potentiometer for the 500K one. It has three terminals, as normal, but it also has 2 terminals at the very bottom of it. The packaging says POT LIN SW 1/4 IN RND 2 5MM
