    Electronics Engeeniring

There is no substitute for the long haul of study. We used to do it through the only source available in books, some of which were written 10 years before. These days one can access up to the minute details through a quick Google search. Many try to take the quick trip around the side of any...

    Triac problem

The nature of the web site makes some circuits appear as only "part of" which is why I commented. Perhaps they should fix it.

    Switch set up

Reed switches would work as "signal" device but would not carry motor current. Micro switch ok if non critical as far as absolute position top or bottom is concerned, which should be no worries. Would need to shop "China" for cheaper price though. One through everyday electrical outlet would be...

    Selenium rectifier?

So I did....then you argue the point. If you know all about it why ask in the first place. BTW...pwm has overcome most of the problems you present. If you want to switch half and full wave as per original, simply use 4 separate diodes. Note that schottky diodes will give a lower voltage drop.

    Selenium rectifier?

It is much easier to follow the circuit of a full bridge rectifier if it is drawn in the common accepted way of a diamond with the two AC top and bototom and the negative on the left with all arrows (diodes) facing the postiive terminal. And again, no need for the resistor you mentioned...

Newbie needs help identifying/naming amber ribbon circuit

I have to say, but how do you think the Op will reconnect the new cells.......?? Chances are it will be solder joints.

Newbie needs help identifying/naming amber ribbon circuit

You will find it will not be available as a "spare part"from Dewalt or anywhere else.............a new battery pack from Dewalt, yes....... new pack from a clone mob...probably. As far as potential damage, that depends on your expertise or lack of....... Only suggestion I have is use a high...

    hacking a smoke alarm

Either way, if it part of the required smoke alarm system for the dwelling, and you "fiddle" with it, and insurance find out under any inspection, either before or after any incident, you can be certain they will wipe any insurance claim. That would be the least of your problems as building...

    hacking a smoke alarm

Mains connected smokies have a green and a red LED, one for power indication and the other for alarm/zone indication. All should be interconnected and audibly alarm on smoke condition as suggested above but only the dodgy zone alarm shows red flashing LED. One could opto this red LED...

    Brushless motor controller

The fact that the motor is high voltage rating not enough for you...??? Plenty of motors from RC gear which operate at a safe level. Suggest you give that some thought.

    Heat gun motor pcb ?

Capacitor in series with the motor suggests it to be the voltage drop element. Once again, crude but works so long as motor is completely isolated from the outside world.
