    .....And just what seems to be the problem exactly. That chip, according to the spec puts out 5v with 150mA max and it's own thermal shut down circuitry....... Does it have 5v out...?? Is it over 150 degrees (spec shut off level) ...?? Is it shutting off or you just think it's not right...?

    Best way to add sound effects to model railway gear is a miniature bluetooth speaker. Mate of mine found one around 25mm square and the sound that comes from it needs to be heard to be believed. Source the sounds from the internet and load into ones phone.

    Follow my earlier directions as you may intruduce feedback into the system and end up with some really weird outcome. Auto wiring is mostly earth return but there are exceptions and combinations of both. Can get really complex around headlight wiring if you don't know what you are doing.

    You can get into more strife than Flash Gordon by fiddling with auto wiring without knowing what's involved. It's not as straighforward as you may think. Best place to start is to get a complete wiring diagram for your particular vehicle. Be cautious here also as there can be many variations...

    Either a short somewhere in the load or the power supply acting up. If the latter I'd put my money on the x2 capacitor as it appears to be a non-isolated supply. Just a note here, where you say you hold it in your hand.......... Very dangerous practice as there are mains voltages present there...

    No, you shorted the supply which cause a large current drain on the battery. Since you have already caused a catastrophic melt down by powering up without checking, who knows..? I'd say a distinct possibility.

    Suggest you get a replacement part, solder one end to the remaining good pad. Solder a small jumper cable from the other end of the new component to the nearest good solder joint of the same trace. Drop of epoxy on new device when satisfied all is working.
