    Depending on the sensor chosen, a Mosfet device should do it, but if switching at a high rate the coil response may again be a limiting factor, due to its switching response time. M.

    You have shown the alternator output to the rectifiers, but the rotor is usually wound and has two slip rings with brushes for the field which then goes to a regulator to maintain the field current and consequentially the AC/DC output. I can't see it being wide open with no regulation. Maybe...

    Rectifiers are fairly flexible when it comes to selection, as long as the DC voltage maximum is well covered and the current is sufficient, it doesn't matter if you oversize a bit. The two in the centre look like solder end, similar to the press fit ones in current auto alternators. M.

    I would equate maximum efficiency occurring when at rated continuous current and exerting maximum torque which is at zero rpm. If a motor is operating outside of its rated continuous current, that is hardly efficiency IMO. M.

    A bit of a loaded question. A typical quality DC motor has a fairly flat torque curve from 0rpm up, where it is at maximum, to a very small drop at max rated rpm. So It is a fairly efficient motor right across the rpm range where a given load can be maintained right across the whole rpm range M.
