If they are sold as Universal motors then they should be equally capable on AC or DC. Was there Any documentation? M.

Personally I would rather confirm/check the construction before connecting AC, generally it is plural, Series Coil(s). M.

    Mystery Wiring, Need Help.

I am trying to get my head around a Universal motor with both series and shunt field in AC use, generally there is a pair of series field coils, I suspect that the shunt field is when it is used in a DC generator mode. A series motor will not work as effectively as generator. It really needs a...

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

Being a Universal motor I realize that. The motor runs that more smoothly on DC. M.

    Treadmill Motor Controller Board issue

If you change it, you could initially place a 240v lamp in place of the motor and see if it lights with nothing else untoward happens. If the lamp light then try the motor. M.

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

Google Triac 220v motor controller. In place of the motor place a bridge rectifier with the AC in and then wire the motor across the bridge +ve & -ve. The 220K with be your foot pedal pot. M. e.g.

    Treadmill Motor Controller Board issue

Often service (or lack thereof) is a cause for example not lubricating the belt as needed. M.

    Treadmill Motor Controller Board issue

The general causes are tight belts or loading, voltage spikes etc but hard to tell, generally the motors themselves do not cause that much of a problem, you could check the brushes, also any shorts can usually be seen by running the motor on an automotive battery. M.

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

Before changing the motor I would try the Triac method, if you are able to, there are many designs out there via Google etc. And simple to build with just a few parts needed. M.

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

Universal motors are hard to control accurately without feedback, but if the present M/C method is a variable resistance pedal, you may get an improvement with one of the simple Triac controllers and follow it with a bridge rectifier before the motor. M.

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

Well that explains it a little further! The motor technology is needed in order to take it further. AC ?,DC?, Universal? etc. Acording to Google it is Universal. M.

Replacement Motor - Sewing machine (Stepper or Servo?) More torque needed

The problem with increasing power, you may stress other parts of the machine if you end up over taxing it. Traditionally the motor has been a Universal motor on sewing M/C's, Do you know the technology of this one? M.

    Treadmill Motor Controller Board issue

The metal with slots is the Heat sink for the semi conductor screwed to the side, these (semi's) are the first suspects, Also the semiconductors on the large aluminum H.S. are also the first to be checked. IIRC the ones on this unit are Mosfets, the number is on the front of the semi conductor. M.

YL90L2-2 single phase dual capacitor motor

I realize I may have mislead, I meant both caps in series with the start winding, not with each other. M.

YL90L2-2 single phase dual capacitor motor

Could be you have the start and run winding's reversed. The run winding (no cap in series) is the one with the lowest resistance, the higher resitance start winding has both caps in series, the larger value one gets switched out by the internal switch. M.

Obviously there is some mis-connection due to no torque now. Can you post a pic of the motor plate/connections etc? M.

YL90L2-2 single phase dual capacitor motor

Strictly speaking that motor should be on at least a 20amp 120v outlet, as it is ~3HP. The inrush current will be fairly high at switch on. Especially if there is also a load at start up. I question the shop you took it to if they "charged for replacing electric brushes & cleaning of the...
