    You obviously have a short circuit. Isolate the secondary of the transformer to eliminate downstream circuitry. This can normally be achieved by removing the bridge rectifier. Then power it up.

    It’s obviously for vehicle use so will have a wide(ish) input range. It will probably work with 18V but not to its full potential.

    The red and black banana plugs have been added to the front. The inputs are on the back. Therefore, no telling what or why or colour coding was used. Trace the wiring from the banana plugs to the back and see what they are connected to.

    What does that mean?. Stop smoking the funny stuff!. If it’s supposed to have 12V and you don’t have that, then first check the input signals to and from the source.

    Don’t jump the gun, although possible it’s doubtful. Have you got hold of an incandescent bulb?. Have you disconnected the transformer secondaries? Have you disconnected the transformer primary?. It’s more likely the switching transistor on the heat sink is shorted. Edit: And of course...

    Don’t forget the current limiting resistors. Also, on a side note, you can wire them in series and forget about the buck converters. Edit: if you use standard LEDs.

    LEDs can be driven as low as 1mA depending on the brightness you require. That equates to 1000 LEDs per Amp (give or take).

    Maybe a servo would be better than a solenoid? Especially if you want the LED to move when the switch is pressed, regardless of the switch type. If you tell us more about your project, we may have some better answers.

    Dishonest?, absolutely not. It’s not cheating anyone. It’s simply more appealing to the eye. If the item is for resale, its description would say “restored “. In fact, if you restore and don’t try and keep the vintage look, it may not have the same appeal.
