    If you have an old (or new) incandescent bulb, you can wire it in series with the live mains input. Obviously 240v bulb!. 100 watts or so. It’ll light up bright indicating a short.     Yes, rebuild and stuff it in the original housing as already stated. Very common process to it looking vintage.

    You say that you have a diode junction. Did you reverse the leads and check again? You probably destroyed the switching transistor and it’s shorted.

    I thought you required 6A for transmitting?. If so, use a 10A minimum. You can’t/shouldn’t run components at their max. Have headroom to run them cooler, more efficient and last longer.
