    Guidance

Decide what you WANT to do for the rest of your working life, and route your studies toward that discipline. My son had a choice of directing his studies toward computer programming, or computer hardware architecture; two different disciplines. Like you, he had to chose which one he liked to...

    3D Manipulator- Robot drawer

What is your Major if you're attempting this without any electronics knowledge? Why don't you try a thesis in some area you've studied? My suggestion if you're going to pursue this anyway, is to start Googleing for what you need. I don't think anybody here has the time to research your thesis...

Have you tried a garden tool repair/supply supply store? I've been pretty lucky with the one in my area.

    200kΩ or a 250kΩ for a replacement of a 220kΩ Trimmer Potentiometer Resistor

I don't know who your 'specialist' is, but if you're sending this to somebody who repairs/calibrates this model, they may have the correct part on-hand, or be able to buy from the equipment mfgr. In any event, if he repairs/calibrates, he ought to return the instrument to you within factory specs.

High Temperature environment proximity sensor switch.

Sounds to me like you need to start looking for a company that does custom work. I am assuming this is going to require a particular pressure threshold also. I'd start with somebody that does work with military contracts. Vehicle manufacturer's maybe? Large diameter gun barrel stress reading or...

[Update] Need help with a CRT TV

That's GREAT news. Clean the wiring connectors and make sure they make good contact when you reseat them. If it was working, you've got an intermittent connection somewhere and you just need to find it. Tell her next time, just put the non-electronic stuff outside when she decides to repaint.

    ID Obsolete Motorola Communications Capacitors?

Whew. Couldda been worse. Mightta had my entire post deleted! Sure wish I could find somebody with some cross reference on a Motorola Comm parts list. Also picked-up a bundle of Motorola Communications 80D83164B01's. Fortunately for me, the ORIGINAL manufacturer part number is still stamped on...

    Replacing an electrical ballast

ps. If you know who the hood manufacturer is, you might be able to buy a replacement from them.

    Replacing an electrical ballast

OK. I'd give-up. If you're SURE the bulb is ok and your connector contacts are clean. I'd assume it's your ballast. You can try to find an exact replacement, or go to a pet supply store and ask about (or Google) replacement kits for hood lights. You can knock yourself out trying to find an...

    Trying to repair our VFD

No, sorry, I don't have the schematics on an ach550. Again, you might try getting them from ABB (or Google them). ... I realize you're convinced this one IC is your problem. How did you determine that? From visual inspection? Have you got more than one of these boards, maybe in another on-site...

    ID Obsolete Motorola Communications Capacitors?

Thanks *steve*. I'll stick a few of them on a Secore 'Z' meter and that'll give me the capacitance value. But as you noted, not what the working voltage is supposed to be. I'll have to zap a few of them to estimate that. Once I get a voltage that charges them without damage I can run all of...

    Finding a good soldering iron....

To me, because you said you used several soldering irons and have the same problem: 1) Are the soldering iron tips clean? Do they need to be cleaned and re-tinned for better transfer of heat? 2) You didn't specify the gauge of the wire you're trying to solder, or what you're trying to solder...

[Update] Need help with a CRT TV

When you say it 'worked fine', do you mean you had a picture on the screen, or did you just mean that your degaussing function worked? I checked your original post. davenn advised the set is probably a lost cause, and he is probably right considering the expertise required in trying to make the...

    Any Experience with the LT3500

I don't have any experience with it, but the data sheet says it'll do what you want it to. Is there some particular reason in the application that you want to use it for, that you wonder why it might not do the job?

    ID Obsolete Motorola Communications Capacitors?

I bought a big bag of Motorola Communications capacitors over the weekend, erroneously thinking I'd be able to Google the part number. No luck doing that. Does anybody know where I can get the capacitance and working voltage values of Motorola capacitor part # 48C83159B01? Axial leaded...

    Trying to repair our VFD

Are you kidding *steve*? I could barely see the IC. How in the heck could I see missing pieces of it? My 10 1/2" x 18" computer monitor isn't big enough? What're you using, one of those big-screen jobs? I need to get me one of those. Couldn't be my old worn-out peepers, just got me a new pair...

    Trying to repair our VFD

The next time you splash water on a printed circuit board, DO NOT reapply power until you use 73's de Edd's advice on COMPLETELY drying the PCB. The water didn't zap your device by itself, reapplying power to a wet board did. Why are you convinced the IC (that we can't see in your photo) is the...

    Replacing an electrical ballast

If it's new, isn't there a manufacturer's warranty on it? I'd return it if you can. You're just guessing on replacing the ballast. It could be the on/off switch, or a bad wiring connection. When I had aquariums, the biggest lighting hood problem was moisture and crud from the water coating the...

BobK's advice is the right choice for creating a vacuum in a closed container. You said you want this low-cost. Find somebody in your area with a vacuum pump and make a deal with them.
