    Much to be said for that too. For all the stuff I've ordered direct from China I've yet to be let down or disappointed. Ok, a couple of errors but they were all corrected when pointed out. I only wish I had the wherewithal to order the vast quantities of stuff that pique my interest!

    The UK wiring system has the lighting on a separate circuit (6A) and also separates the upper and lower floors such that if the lower floor RCD trips the lower floor LIGHTS don't go out (they are powered via the upper floor RCD). It has to be a pretty efficient (and safer) way of doing things!

    Yes. A push-pull output stage would normally have 0V at the 'centre point' and it may be that the shorted part is causing the output stage to try to compensate for the 'pulling' of the supply to the other rail. Change the dud transistor.

    You may have a shorted transistor on the 'hot' heat sink side. Check the Vbe (voltage between base and emitter) of all the transistors on the hot side and see if there are any well outside the 0.6V(ish) range.
