HELP NEEDED - Faulty home theater

Great! My apologies, But just remember the electrolytic capacitors have to be the right way around. Please post again if you have further questions. Ash,

    RCD Fault

The socket is the same height as the U bend, just as the plumbing comes from behind the cuboards. It might help if I halve the length of pipe coming from the U bend. It will reduce the risk until the plumbers come out to move it, or fix a quality sealed waste pipe instead of an open-type one...

    RCD Fault

HELP NEEDED - Faulty home theater

You were right to take closer photos of the individual capacitors, those are bulging or expanding therefore need replacing. I should hope the transformer isnt faulty yet and the power problem is due to the faulty capacitors. You should replace all the bulging capacitors and briefly test the...

    RCD Fault

Yeah, there was leakage to ground from the live when I tested the plug as seen in the picture. There was no cracks and no signs of corrosion. There is an overflow pipe for the outlet of the washing machines waste located close to the socket. Although I had thought this is a stupid place to put...

    Network Analysis (electrical circuits) Exercises

I studied this in my recent year, on my Electronic & Comms degree. I may have some resources I used myself to help you, I hope you can understand the hand-writing of some of my closest colleagues. Some of the most informative files I have are too large to upload, so feel free to PM me with your...

    RCD Fault

Hi Guys, I thought I'd mention a fault I found yesterday. My brother had an intermittent RCD fault, so I ruled out the socket and then the cooker first because I know the fault is common in these appliances. Turns out it was the washing machine that was tripping the RCD, so I opened it up...

    Custom PCB

No I've obtained a quote for a 5cm x 5cm [2" x 2" approx], it really is $10 for 5 boards. Not only that, if you select 2 layers its still $10 for 5 boards. I'm uk so thats £6 for me Awesome

    Custom PCB

I'd like to discuss what manufacturers produce the cheapest custom PCB's for hobbyists. There are lots of online company which say they are low cost, but tend to be quite expensive. I know its hard to get low prices for such small orders. A 2x2inch board would be nice. There may be a similar...

    Op Amp for speaker circuit

Yeah I've brought that module aswell. They are cheaper on Mouser but its a case of paying a £12 delivery charge. Great though, if your bulk buying.

    Op Amp for speaker circuit

Brilliant, I'll be able to test the effects of the different types if I install the IC in a socket. Definitely worth learning about. There's the 0.25w, 0.5w and 0.7w, all fairly cheap on ebay if stamped from china. Everythings a learning experience :)

    Op Amp for speaker circuit

Thats something I didn't know about speaker wattage, thanks Bob. I've also learnt that higher gain/volume can increase distortion. I like the voltage range on the LM386 and I can see why it might be popular.. I'll grab some of those to experiment with, aswell as the PAM8403 module. Thanks...

    Op Amp for speaker circuit

My 8ohm speakers are 3w, I also have two 6ohm 2w speakers I can use. How will a change in speaker load effect the circuit? I must admit the module looks nice and easy. Making the device portable would be nice, so I'd like to use a 9v battery and use a 5v voltage regulator if necessary. What...

    Op Amp for speaker circuit

Hi Guys, I'm trying to find a simple circuit design which amplifies sound from an audio jack, to two 8ohm speakers. I only have quad LM324 op amps. Thanks, Ash

    12v 4A power supply

Hi guys, My friend is working on a project, but he needs a supply which takes 230v on the input and 12v 4A on the output. What is the simplest way to create this supply circuit? I imagine some of the components might be expensive as well, because of the 4A on the output. Thanks, Ash

    Components and Operating Temperature

Hi Guys, I'd like to get some information about what operating temperatures we can expect to see in common components, and how a fault can effect these operating temperatures. I'm studying fault finding using thermal imaging cameras or non-contact digital digital thermometers, purely out of...

    RCD Fault - I'm dumbstruck

Finally fixed the problem. It seems there wasn't an RCD fault after all. I couldn't understand why the double socket spur would trip when my appliance was plugged in, but not trip when the appliance was plugged into the ring main.. Because the spur and the ring main are on the same circuit...
