    In view of your lack of experience, building something to work with mains voltage (using a blender motor suggests that is your intention) is not advisable. Get it wrong and your first project could be your last ;). Better/safer to cut your electronics teeth on a battery powered project.

    That's a calculation I can do in my own head :). It's a bit more than when the switch is closed, but not the ~200mA you allege ;). Are you asking for an answer for yourself, Colin, or asking the OP to do the math?

    I certainly can, but this thread is all about encouraging the OP to do the calculations. How do you get that figure? R1 is the main current-limiter for the 16V zener. The only way 200mA could flow would be if there were reverse-voltage breakdown of the transistor collector-base junction.

    Not so, Colin. Spice confirms them (as do members on another forum where the same topic is raised). Eh? Most of the current goes through the 150Ω resistor, not through the zener. So the rest of the world is wrong :). Hmmm.

    I think you mean 8.7A? A 2kW motor is about 2000VA.

    If one face of the piezo disc is in contact with the uke, the other face ideally should be bonded to an inertial mass to maximise sensitivity. That might not be necessary, and of course would make the mic more prominent.

    I'm sure it could be made to work. The Logitech has a mic input, so the pre-amp probably wouldn't need to be high gain.

    Sadly, it's not all correct. This bit is: "Ue = 16 - 0,6 = 15,4V". Starting with that, work out the currents in R6 and RL. The total of those two gives Ie.

    Depends on the (presumably powered) speaker spec, but you'd probably need a pre-amp between mic and speaker. If the speaker is un-powered then you'd also need an amplifier.

    Check the dimensions against those of the original transformer. If you've got space for it, go for a slightly larger one, which is less likely to be as stressed as the original. Let's hope the problem was the transformer; not something else which overloaded the transformer.
