Any Linux (specifically Ubuntu) users here? HELP!

Took around 10 minutes to reload Ubuntu! Don't know why I let the issue confuse me for so long. It's not as satisfactory as searching for and finding the correct solution but as much as I like to know how things work etc I'm getting too long in the tooth to spend 'hours' of wasted time when...

How can I test a xlr charging port

The interlock may well both disable the scooter movement AND activate the charging circuit so yes, the chances that there is an issue with it is high. Can you tell whether the XLR activates a physical switch or do you know if there is a 'sense' pin in the plug that sends a voltage thru to the...

    Bit of quiz fun

Point taken - such gear layouts usually include a mechanical 'link', in many cases a collar under the gear knob that requires the user to 'pull/lift' to enable the gate movement, to select reverse.

    Locating 10mm LEDs

Unless your supplier is a known factor then anything purchased via eBay comes with the peculiarities of that route..... potential for mismatching, under specification etc. Purchase from a supplier located in your own country, with good feedback (actually READ the feedback comments!) and that...

    Bit of quiz fun

No way! They wouldn't allow a 'straight' move to reverse from a forward gear - it's always on a dog-leg. It could be another 5 - the sum of the diagonals in the first four squares.

    Unknown plug needs replaced

Why not? Practically any (suitable) multi-pole socket could be mounted on a small plate (or even a small square of pcb material) and bolted over the existing socket/hole - after its removal of course.

Help me understand this combination lock circuit (4017)

At switch on the 0 output of the 4017 is logic 1 (due to the reset delivered by C1, IC2a and IC2b). Only by pressing the correct button will that logic level be passed around to the clock input of the 4017, incrementing the output and causing a 1 at output 1, 1 at output 2 etc. The clock pulse...

Can minor fumes from old tubular lead acid batteries cause permanent damage to lungs

Theoretically they issue hydrogen gas during charging - hence the requirement to ventilate and avoid connecting/disconnecting (sparks) when charging. Sulphuric acid fumes would also be present. Hydrogen sulphide is also probable. There absolutely should NOT be any means of allowing gases to...

Any Linux (specifically Ubuntu) users here? HELP!

Palemoon shows in the list of installed software, disappears when I click the 'remove' button beside it but is back there after a reboot. There is only one user account. Given that there is a label beside the Palemoon entry stating "3rd party software" I reckon it may well be a non-apt install...

    Mystery Electronic Device

Could be part of a steam punk type pendant lighting system - there's a growing hobby base manufacturing household lighting (bunches of assorted, everyday objects made into lights) and the wires are indicative of that purpose. It would contain an LED rather than a filament bulb though but only...

Nope, no errors. The listing disappears (as does the icon) from the installed software listing but even after a restart you can find it using search and launch it..... and the installed software listing shows it there again! Any attempt to remove it from the repository gives the warning...

Is it possible to replace keyboard LEDs with neon indicators and a single inverter?

A circuit to flicker the existing LEDs at 50/60Hz would probably be safer. Putting the flickering LEDs behind some extra thin perspex would give the 'crappy' look neon's are noted for too....

    Head lamp set up

The bulb will have two pins plus a metal body, the body being common to the two filaments. ISTR the only difference is the position of the filaments such that the high beam filament is at a different focal point of the headlight envelope/reflector. Accordingly it doesn't really matter if they...
