Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Both are short circuit. A direct link. Think of putting the probes together. Albeit, the probe leads will have some resistance in the wire. I think the best way to explain is a short is not wanted. A component that should not read such a low resistance and has failed. Components can fail short...

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

0;00 or up to 0.03. Remember that a short is electrically connected. Like a direct link. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Absolutely, of course. Also tell if the resistor was shorted or open circuit. Likewise if the LED was working or not. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Yes , exactly. Edit, in post 11 it would be the bottom picture Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

You don't have a break. You have very low Ohms reading. A short Or a link or electrically connected. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Yes, continuity means a loop without a break. What you are doing *is* just putting the meter probes together. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Ok we got there in the end. What you are reading is perfectly normal. You are measuring the resistor. Then you are just probing a wire between the resistor and power source, it's a dead short for the DMM. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Is this what you are doing? Excuse the terrible pic Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

Can you clarify post 5 please. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

That never even crossed my mind. Well spotted.

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

That will measure the resistor only. Sorry you lost me. Please edit the circuit picture with connections from your DMM. Also, LEDS as you already stated have anodes and cathodes. Which tells you which leg to connect to the positive and negative of a power source. Martin

Explain why DMM reads 00.0 on negative side of circuit

That's actually really confusing. Can you explain that again please? All I can think of is the LED is acting as it should, a diode. But as I couldn't decipher your question, or where you are probing, it's just a guess. EDIT: LEDs don't have positive and negative legs. EDIT2: Put the resistor...

    Fan subsitute Watt rating

Which is why a simple hack is necessary sometimes. Your 'Turbo' can easily fit another fan. If you are anal, think about the CFM etc. If not, go for an ebay £3.99 fan.

    HV Rat Killer

I think he has gone!, We will never know how the rats got to his bird table. Hmm, Maybe , maybe not. Buy an air rifle!.. Job done!

    HV Rat Killer

The alternative solutions have been clearly quoted. Your device would be dangerous to every living creature. You talk about your bird table. Do you think ONLY birds like millet, sun flower seeds, hemp, mealworm, sunflower hearts etc etc etc.. Having a bird table is a cafe for rodents and...

    Cd Laser not lighting up

On that assembly, the CD spindle should have a motor? Is it a Mabuchi or similar?. Around 5 or 6 volts? Can you check that the voltage is present at the connector? Martin

    Cd Laser not lighting up

Hi Haelind, When you say a brand new laser pickup, do you mean the complete assembly or the pickup lens? Does the CD player spindle motor work? Martin
