I think I have one too....

How do i use these thingys?

Loser, You need to read/check the datasheet for your individual leds/transistors. They all have different operating voltages and currents. Some might switch several Amps while others will only work on micro amps. Post your circuit.. Martin

Uncle Chris, Wow, on tap too....I mean drip! Obviously not a regulated drip? Taking grapes to hospital has a different meaning now!:D Have fun, and wish the OTHERS a merry xmas....:p Marty

    Appropriate diode fo my circuit

Hi Tony the EnglishLion, Of course you are English! Yor name Tony gave it away! As suggested above, 1N4148 diodes will be just fine. Also, what leds are you using? Martin

Help! Repairing water damaged PCB from Massage chair.

Hi Jonathan, Yes, you can have capacitors in parallel to double the capacitance. Glad you found that out! Opposite to resistors of course.. The LM7805 as you now know is a 5v regulator. And no, not intermittent. Depending on other circuitry, it may be shutting down due to over voltage or cannot...

How do i use these thingys?

They are different. IR leds are not IR phototransistors. Both are diode classes. As are all leds and transistors. I have heard of normal blue leds being used too. But that is far beyond my experience. If you have seen the circuit, try it! Martin

How do i use these thingys?

Normally yes. But by all means not always. It would obviously depend on what you are controlling and the circuits voltages and current. But yes, it is just a switch! Martin

Put yourself in mine and all other 'learners' shoes Dave! We will never know half of what you have forgotten!:p:p So catching up is a no go! Going forward is likely!..But not guaranteed in my case:D Uncle Chris only guides me after several large liquified grapes:eek: Martin

My reply was showing a quote of your post! Must be mobile!! So, I was saying to the others that mentioned PC dependant hardware, that it wont work or be mobile without a huge backpack!! Martin

How do i use these thingys?

Hello LOSER!, Generally you would need a circuit that employs other switching too. The phototransistor is just like/similar to a regular transistor, except the base is the IR light. You can use them to 'turn on' a transistor and that will open or close a circuit. Martin

Sorry Ash, not trying to tell you how to suck eggs! I think you are more knowledgeable than I am! Sometimes, two heads are better than one!! Martin

battery decorations converted to mains tranformer

But in this case, the OP has 4.5v and 3v. So two diodes are perfect for a voltage drop.. Martin

battery decorations converted to mains tranformer

I would guess that you can.. But obviously very inefficient. lots of diodes... But yeah, it's possible.. Martin

battery decorations converted to mains tranformer

Hi Ash, the diode would drop the voltage by approx 0.7v for each diode. The resistors are more for limiting the current. So two diodes at 0.7v is 1.4 volt drop immediately. As for reliability, rectifiers are used in all AC to DC units. So I would guess they are reliable. Martin

LED lights dimming after several minutes

Sorry can you explain that again? Ash (sadlercomfort) gave a very nice explanation of what power supply to use. You can go a little further and buy/use a supply that has a higher Amperage output. Like a 3Amp to keep it cooler. Martin

Help! Repairing water damaged PCB from Massage chair.

Sorry Jonathan, That makes no sense to me!.. The cap you replaced wont filter enough ripple and could cause oscillations. Which wont help diagnose this.. I would suggest starting with the power supply, not the remote. The tx and rx can be bridged to simulate the remote.. The remote is just a...
