    5v / 700mA is about 7 ohms. If your USB is only 500mA, it could damage your motherboard. The resistor wattage would be a concern too. You have to provide the correct information or guessing will damage things.. Martin

    Without knowing the LED details and your usb details it's difficult to say. If the resistor you are using keeps the led cool, but is not quite bright enough, try a lower resistance. What resistor are you using? Martin

    What USB current output do you have? Theses are typically 700mA to 1Amp for white..Which is more than likely from a flashlight (torch for yanks..John) Martin

    Hi jonawald, As explained above, the capacitor should be replaced with the same μF rating but the voltage can be higher and not lower.. Your power supply is probably about 2Amps. As a rule of thumb, 1000μF for every Amp. The AC input of 12V when rectified to DC will change the voltage seen too...

    Copper Wire as simple BusBar

    Your "bus bars" are just fine.. Solder them for a good connection. Or use the blocks that dorke suggested! Less chance of wire breakage if they are soldered though.. As Minder said, "you can pretty much double what you are using now before the rated cable has any problems!.. Martin

    It is entirely possible to make these in the home.. With a little homework, you could too.. No need to pay somebody! In fact, I use one daily to get information from my children!! Instead of a grunt, they actually talk!!!.. Martin

    Actually, the originals were wind up, if I remember correctly.. You can probably still buy them with different circuitry that now uses a battery though.. A CR2023 or something like a watch or car remote uses. Martin
