    Faint display on Aiwa Tuner

Hi Roadtoad, Apart from the obvious caps and voltage as GPG suggests, check the displays pins solder joints too. A cold solder joint will give similar symptoms. Some of the display is visible while other sections are very dim. Which is why some members thought it might be LED. If I were you, I...

Is there anything useful in a photocopier?

It must be something about us guys, I keep metal plates and plastic pieces too. Mainly flat pieces for bases of projects. But the plastics can be really useful too. Ideal for laying out a project where separation is required. Too late for the missus, I'm on the prowl for a replacement! Martin

LCD driver: What changes in 3-D mode?

LCD driver: What changes in 3-D mode? That would have been a much simpler question.. Sorry, I stopped reading at that point...Information overload. Don't get me wrong, it was an extremely detailed post. Possibly too detailed for a first post.. Martin

    Solar lights to DC

Good point Trevor, I assumed when the OP said low voltage, he meant a DC brick or "wall wart" kind.. Martin

    Most common failure survey.

I hear you! My Toyota Previa used to cut out when idling, Toyota had it for 5 days and finally rang me with an estimate. £1350 for a new throttle body, two injectors, Erv or EG valve or something? I refused and got a second opinion from a chap that does a "no cure, no fee". £35, to tell me the...

    Solar lights to DC

Hi chur_bro, That should be a fairly simple conversion. Are the batteries in series? so you get 3.6v.? I doubt they are parallel to get 1.2v and 1.8A.. I would also imagine the 600mAh is for longer run times rather than required amperage.. First you need to find out how they all connect...

    Delayed buzzer for Motorbike

As soon as the OP posted I thought of a 4017. But as I don't require two 'loser' badges , I stayed silent! Perhaps it wasn't such a bad idea after all... Martin

Is there anything useful in a photocopier?

Hmm, my wife threw me away too!! Nearly two years, kind of divorced, but not quite!! I wasn't as good as a photocopier, but I was damn good at telling her to stop saying the same thing!!! Does that count:D'' I personally keep most small pcb's assembled!. Then scavenge later when needing a...

    Most common failure survey.

Yes but no but John..... 20 years is for older designed caps.... Mine last 3 days after the warranty runs out !! Max 3 years..:)

    Most common failure survey.

Oooh, another good question.... Totally depends on the use! Somewhere hot will dry it out quicker. Others might skimp and scrape on the voltage and kill it! Example: A 12v circuit with a 16v cap. Better to use a 25v or higher cap.. Martin

Also , diodes... Because of wrong polarity....A very simple internal pcb fuse is also 80% the problem.

    Most common failure survey.

John, That's a really good question, one I often ask myself!. I can probably get the conversation going by adding: Caps..= most things old!, power supplies, most things! Amps = output transistors. Anything else in between. Martin
