Can anyone identify this item please?

Hi Stewart, Give Sergio Boiler Spares a ring. If you send him a pic from your phone, he will tell you what it is and whether he has any there and then. This guy is a GOD with all boiler spares and certainly knows his stuff. I have used him for over 20 years. He is located in Hackbridge. Just...

Use plug / jack with K Type thermocouple?

Hi Andy, The Seebeck Effect. Your jack would be called the cold junction. Ironically, I was looking into getting another meter with temperature measurement. I couldn't quite grasp how it works. So I decided to research it and found a great video going into detail how it all works. This video...

how to find out current in each resistors

Hehe, thanks @davenn . It definitely looks neater. I only left the other resistor there to show the OP there was 6, and only 5 in his schematic. BTW Dave, what software is it? I might have to get it.. Never mind Dave, I just found it..:) Martin

    new to circuitry

Hi Rock18, That switch looks like a spider with twisted legs..(A 6 legged spider). Try and neaten it up a little with soldered joints or a bread board. Great job by the way. Martin.

how to find out current in each resistors

Hi Vead, My math is a complete fail. But you can't measure anything on your bread board connected like that! Try this in my (badly edited) Paint picture. ( there's a much better version ;) ;) ) (mod edited image)

    Mixing Woodworking and Electronics

Cris, I have never used one. But it says it is temp controlled. Cheap enough too. I suppose temp controlled irons are the way to go. But if you never had one, you wouldn't know the difference!! Martin

LED Strips blink on all X10 circuits

Hi Blayson, I can see three rows of leds not two. Is it possible to get a picture of the back of the led board to see how they are connected? And also how many leds there are in total on both boards. The led drivers might not be sufficient at 1.2A. Martin

how to hardwire a house radio in a car - crazy project

Bob is correct, the unit comes with an ac-dc adaptor. Simply buy a lead with the same size dc jack that's on the adaptor. Watch the polarity though. Or buy a dc jack and solder some wires to it and connect to the vehicles electrical system. Martin

    Mixing Woodworking and Electronics

Good question. If I thought it was just for the odd bit of soldering, I would buy 'that person' a pencil type £25 iron. I own 4 pencil types, but my Antex irons 15w and 25w have been with me for 30+ years and are still going strong. In fact, I do most of my soldering with them. And with great...

    Help please !

That's not a dumb question at all. But what mic is it? Does the amp have mic gain? Could be settings on the amp, Or do you mean just picking it up gets amplified into taps and pops? Check the connections in the mic and it's jack. Martin

    Mixing Woodworking and Electronics

Hello Cris, I'm Martin and I'm an alcoholic.. Oops, wrong forum.:). My advice is to buy the best tools you can afford. But others have the throw away mentality. But it all boils down to how often you will be using the tools and of course 'your mentality'. Do you buy cheap soft chisels and...

    new to circuitry

We only accept cash! Glad it's working. TBH, I wouldn't have thought to do that with an led. I do it with diodes though!! Even though the led is a diode too! Like Harold said "think outside the box". A lesson for us both.:) Martin

Help with "switch box" halloween prop (2leds + solenoid)

Hi Sieg, Your diagram shows an led switching the solenoid,. At best, the solenoid is getting 25ma and 3v. You are probably better to have the solenoid switched on after S2 (not through the led) and maybe a 9v battery. I could be wrong!!! Normally am!! Great use of switches though! Nice idea...
