    TV repair help, blown caps

Hi, I think it will be beneficial to replace the cap.:) Or you might start getting symptoms again. As you don't know what that cap is doing on the circuit. If they are all new, you can count them out. The old cap might have needed several hours to revive. So it is defective. Martin

    Just learning the ropes

Maybe I have a slight advantage because I share his flag.:) He mentioned the manufacturer as quoting 500kOhms, Then at the bottom asked if 500kOhms is the same as 500 thousand Ohms. And his meter read 1.065kOhms and then at the bottom he asks if this is the same as 1 thousand and 65 Ohms...

    TV repair help, blown caps

Hi, Thanks for the update. FYI, the cap doesn't have to look bad to BE bad. I would change that 10 year old cap for a new one before doing anything else. They do dry out, not always bulge or leak. Martin

Hi Maudi, That is simply done with a dpdt switch. All but the second to last paragraph makes sense. Can you draw a diagram of what you actually want to do? Martin

    TV repair help, blown caps

Hi, just found this in the manual for a Hitachi 42 inch lcd. May or may not be anything but... NOTE: When the TV is switched to standby mode, standby LED can blink to indicate that features such as Standby Search, Over Air Download or Timer is active. Certainly worth checking your MENU and...

    why we use ports ?

Just to add to all of the above: GENERALLY, it is because of the amount of wires that need connecting. Why would you want to connect 13 pins individually, when you can just plug in 'port' a connector? Also 'ports' are used to identify a protocol to certain devices or url's. Martin

    TV repair help, blown caps

If the standby worked before you opened the TV, I would double check all the connectors. You wouldn't be the first or the last to forget a connector or even plug it in wrong.. Martin

I agree with you. But until you eliminate all other possibilities, you wont know. You have to progressively and methodically eliminate things. Martin

Laptop Electronics Engineer or Technician needed (Laptop isn't Turning on)

Has it been dropped? I think you need to try another ac adaptor too. You need to eliminate the fault step by step. Martin

Laptop Electronics Engineer or Technician needed (Laptop isn't Turning on)

I might add to: Try this with restart after each step. Remove all memory, HDD, all usb connected items. Restart and see what happens. Put one memory in and restart... Put the other and restart. Put the HDD and restart. Martin

Laptop Electronics Engineer or Technician needed (Laptop isn't Turning on)

Well, maybe yours doesn't have that. Maybe you have to press F12 or D or something. Anyway, it started. Leave it running for 10 minutes on ac adapter only. Power it off and restart again. Don't put battery in.... Let me know what happens. Martin

Laptop Electronics Engineer or Technician needed (Laptop isn't Turning on)

Have you tried the self diagnostics? Remove battery, remove charger plug. HOLD power button and plug the charger in and then release power button. Should start it's self diagnostics? Seems this model of laptop has many problems. Martin
