    Cautionary Tale....

well, yeah... however this is the first time i've ever come across a transformer wired up like this 99/100 the mains goes straight into the transformer, why waste pcb space? But yes, i will be eyeballing exactly where mains runs next time! :)

    Need a Project. Ideas?

Maybe something completely different? http://tronixstuff.com/2013/01/31/tutorial-arduino-and-the-msgeq7-spectrum-analyzer/ I'm going to build one using coloured LEDs under empty milk/vodka/booze bottles... Except i'm going to have it light up the room with mine :)

AC/DC converter - If I cut/ splice the wire can I use it in my car?

Yes, multimeter it, only real way to be sure, i've had red/black cables come out and simply presumed they got it correct! Not doing that again.

    Cautionary Tale....

I was given an old cassette tape, from the 70's/80's anyway opened it up, has 240ac input, 6vdc input, looks good... I found a dry joint, fixed, off it went... fix Next - i see a transformer, ahh relax, risk of death is low! I simply look at the outputs from the transformer, and measure the...

    which micro controller supports iot?

I'm slowly ridding my Arduino mini's for the esp8266 it's a cheap chinese wifi on a tiny pcb, i've been holding out before i start flashing for a bit more online support.. $3 gets you wifi and an 80mhz arm processor on a tiny pcb, hardly seems worth all the effort using uart via the esp to...

    One button power door locks

Using a single push button, you read the buttons input state from the processor.. 2 then toggle a boolean state state!=state; If state is true, then apply +12v if false apply -12v if true (this is the job of the h-bridge ... or use 2 transistors and 2 relays) Alternative is a flipflop ic, a...

    One button power door locks

Ah then yeah the relays are wired up to give a combo of neg and pos 12v to lock and unlock the door... So the flipflop changes from on to off, that's the state, and when pushed whatever that state is use a H-Bridge to lock unlock the motor(s)

    One button power door locks

A flip flop consumes a tiny amount of current, a car battery would run it for years though... A non latching push button to toggle an on/off state... i'm worried about the relay, how do you make it go from locked to unlocked? Do you supply -12v to +12v?

    Android Power Saver (Root Only)

I'm up to version 7... Since then i've added options for delay off (ie you switch the screen on right after the screen goes off) now it gives a grace up to 15 seconds On reboot, the service uses just 3-4meg of ram! Remote control via SMS, enable gps/wifi/etc via on/off commands this then...

    Pre Wired LEDs

I've yet to see a 5mm not handle 20ma as base value, i've ran some on 40ma thinking i used 200ohm when infact it was not lol ... worked great until summer showed up

You'll find those 8 pins are infact 8bits You should be able to set the value and each bit will represent the byte..

LED Strips Display driven from 555 / 4017 counter

Depends on the current draw... i guess if you wanted to save extra, buy 50 2n2222s for a dollar or so, then use the 2n2222 and TIP31 in a darlington pair configuration.... That's providing you need the extra current, i'm sure in the real world a 200ohm resistor from the 4017 out to the base of...

    A hard to resist problem

Oh and yes, jaycar sold you 1/4w not 1/2w what did you pay? I hope you never paid for 1/2watt resistors!

    A hard to resist problem

Why all the confusion people?! The ones from ebay are 1/2watt The ones from jaycar a 1/4watt The size = wattage it can dissipate You could sit a block of ice on top of a 1/4resistor and turn it into a 10w resistor (until the ice melted) Ps a 220k 1/2w resistor is simply a waste of board...

    need a fuse resistor

Wouldn't it be easier to buy the 83ohm (1/4 1/2 watt etc) then a regular 10cents fuse? Or take the old one remove the fuse, test to see if it measures 86ohms, cut the fuse out, replace with new one...

Grid Tie Inverter MOSFET Replacement part IRFP25N50N

Even though it's rated 200v i'm sure it will cope with 220/240v Certainly not recommended, but obviously this unit worked with them (may explain why it failed! Buy a couple as the next one to fail might be around the corner)
