    Alien or Ball Lightning?

While watching the lightning outside, i was recording it on my phone and out of that video this in particular caught my attention... Now either the cloud lights up from a lightning ball or it's an alien craft recharging it's cells.... What's it to be? :). - Adelaide South Australia!

    Supercapacitor safety

I have a 400F 2.7v cap charged via a switching reg with it's current limited to 1 amp (1amp 12v psu) i then step up the voltage to 5v, then i limit the current to the 1w LED to supply 350ma The 400F cap gives about 20 - 30 minutes of light... Or you could short out a 400F with some wire, melt...

Free Energy / Energy Harvesters / Perpetual Motion

I'm strictly talking about waves from space from all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum... from long wave to microwave and beyond And because the air is full of different kinds of wavelengths I agree it would be hard to tap without theft... but in theory why not? Even if it meant a giant...

Ahhh got it, that fills in the gaps, I'm going to experiment out of curiosity sakes :) Thanks!

Free Energy / Energy Harvesters / Perpetual Motion

Wind is free energy Solar is free energy Well let's be honest, wind comes from the warming and cooling from the sun which makes wind... So that leaves shifted down radio waves (on old TV sets, that white snowy pattern was once blinding white light from countless stars which over time it's...

    Before I start testing....

The board at the back appears to be the main power supply.. The board on the left carries the 120/240vac through the caps and toroidal filter ? Could be wrong The one on the right looks OK, I'd like to see photos of that board at the back

    Purpose in syncronizing electronic signals

You're describing a PLL or Phase Locked Loop... Basically a PLL will decrease or increase it's frequency until it's locked or synced with the main clock... Useful for cpus where hardware shares the same bus to pass data, out of sync could lead to corrupted data / crashing, for example it's it...

    Ground loop filter

The GLF is there to remove any DC bias it simply removes the annoying hum via a 1:1 audio transformer... I'm no Audio expert, at all lol... but just logically thinking about it, could an optoisolator be up to the same job? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Help designing a circuit to flip polarity to LEDS

Edit Totally miss read.... That 5v jumper enables the 5v regulator but without closely looking, not sure if that then sets the input or one or more outputs to 5v... it would make more sense to regulate the input (but 12v may make it too hot!) 50hz!

    Building a custom frequency generator

Use a 2F cap with a frequency generator? Can I use ice cream in a toaster? I could but it was never designed to go in a toaster.. A 12v 2F cap is ideally suited for Amps running off 12v batteries, they're not suited (waste of money when a 20c cap is required) If you manage to get even 20ma...

Edd, I too was interested in this type of stuff when I first got into electronics, even came across some convincing videos/photos... and I shared here, however.... The link I posted was to a FREE open info for all link, explaining it all, my problem with your link is it's not free, and that...

    Exactly how evil are Capacitors?

Well, it's called a resistor :) Without a multimeter, attach a 1k resistor to both terminals then go bed! 1 - 5v cap 1k resistor 5 - 18v cap 5-10k For 240vac, nor sure not done the calculation, but probably in the 20k range a 1w or so.. 240/0.02 (volts/amps = resistor bleed value) just...

    Exactly how evil are Capacitors?

Really, it /can/ kill you, not likely unless you're stupid and simply asking for it lol Someone in the Army or Navy? Was learning Electronics and his tutor said pretty much the same here ... low voltage being safe, and one of the exercises was to measure skin resistance from a multimeter...
