Making a cap fed supply safe!

I've thought about this for a while now... On the low side, a tvs diode (eg if over 12v it clamps) and a fuse which should protect a user from death? Or what about simply a very low current blow fuse on the 110/240ac .. would these methods not make a capacitor fed power supply safe? Never...

broken 100w resistor - can i use it?

I'm wondering if heatsink plaster would do it, once it sets it bonds well and handles high temperature

URGENT: my son's halloween will be ruined!

Since it's too late lol To adjust sensitivity, use a potentiometer (providing there's high enough gain to begin with) infact that 10k resistor on picture A, the dc bias resistor could be lowered for more sensitivity. .. i'm going to have to build that circuit myself when i get the time

Mayank... that is correct, well done!

    Optoisolator

But the ac will give you pulses ... maybe rectify it pass it through a cap and a bleed resistor depending on current, maybe a transistor and a 7805.. depends on the AC current to determine resistor values...

    replace BTB15 for BTA16?

Ok i'll keep that in mind; even tthough i've repaired inverters, tv's amplifiers, monitors, dimmers i've had many years of replacing components but thanks lol....

    replace BTB15 for BTA16?

As far as i can tell... the btb has 4 quadrants while the bta has 3... It's come from a 240vac washing machine, dead triac What is a quadrant? I'll google it but question remains can my mate have his washing machine back tomorrow or will i need to buy the part in? Thanks! I'm on my phone and...

    My amplifier!

Update.. I put the faceplate on upside down, took me a while got it all fixed.. Then ... i accidentally plugged in a speaker out from the pc sound card to the input no wrong!!! I connected my sound card directly to the amplifier out! By by creative labs sb card! :( Fixed the amp though ...

    My amplifier!

Amp from hell... I eventually tracked down the issue, replaced practically every cap problem solved... But.... i swear i've not taken any drugs but after putting it all back together (they all fit) there's this 1 cable which seems to have shrunk in length, and if i move it into another...

    My amplifier!

Today after 4 years it started a loud buzzing noise on ALL speakers... I instantly replaced all the dodgy caps, it reduced some noise but still annoying... The Fact all the speakers buzzed is interesting, it was sitting still when it happened there is an mc onboard with display thats all...

    240vac capacitor type?

Yeah removed the caps got the timing frequency from the switch rate of the fet not what appeared from the transformer... Being custom built i got a nice 240vac out but the ac frequency was more like 200hz and the timing frequencies could not be adjusted low enough.. But the 555 was causing me...

    240vac capacitor type?

I have the image but not where i found it (google image search) I'm not sure what kind of cap should be used on the 240ac out... (the low dc side/circuit works) Film type? Electrolytic? Ceramic? Suggestions? Thanks!

    pass transistor...

This is how i use an npn, collector - emitter as a pass transistor, pnps always seemed illogical... But now i'm with it thanks!, the pnp pass transistor makes sense now :)
