Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

hevans, audiog, ak, thanks so much for the informative lesson in hysteresis. I have learned a lot. Progress report: I have started populating the board with the components that I have managed to acquire so far. Finding components in the sharp end of Africa has been a headache so far. Ag, I...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thank you very very much Hop. Above and beyond the call of duty. Was up late last night poring over this: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidu020a/tidu020a.pdf Please just confirm that the guy who wrote this knew his rear end from his arm joint. Now to find an opamp in my meagre stocks. Spice...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks hevans, apologies if I'm starting to irritate you. This is heady stuff to get my 62 year old brain around. I am going to draw this in spice and see if I can figure this lot out. OK, slapped my brain into gear (no alcohol involved) and I think I now get the oscillation problem I am going...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks Audioguru, will get to that Lm339 discussion shortly. How about this design: http://www.electroschematics.com/6123/dc-fan-controller/ Man, I expected this to be a very short sideline to add a bit more functionality to the psu.

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks hevans. Yes, I have always realised and accepted that this could be a troublesome project. But I expect it to to a very educational exercise and so far I am learning a huge amount very quickly, including not trusting professors;) I am still slaving away at the LTSpice simulation of this...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks Audioguru. I am stunned. I knew there are lots of dodgy circuits on the internet but I didn't expect one from a university with an assistant professor involved. I looked at the LM358 internal layout but that is way beyond me.I also realised that there could that oscillation problem at the...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Thanks for the valuable feedback Audioguru, much appreciated. You can now see that I am a professional magic smoke producer. Thinking about your comments you are probably correct. A fan that turns on and off at set temp. points is preferable to one that is constantly revving up and down. So I...

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

My lack of electronics knowledge is very evident here. I have tried to make sense of what Audioguru was saying about the bypass capacitor ( The LM 555 datasheet actually talks about 2 capacitors ) and the fan connected between the positive supply and the 2n222 collector. Here is my...

I'm afraid you're outta luck Audioguru, still very much alive: https://www.banggood.com/0-30V-2mA-3A-Adjustable-DC-Regulated-Power-Supply-DIY-Kit-p-958308.html?rmmds=search

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Probably the first of many questions regarding this build I don't want the fan on the heatsink to run continually but I want it to come on when the heatsink gets too hot I found this design on electronicshub.org Will this work Ok? Or can it be improved?

Chinese Hiland 0-30V/Audioguru PSU build (down the rabbit hole)

Some bits and bobs I've been rounding up: Want to use the heatsink from a cpu. Just need to temperature control it via the 3 cable connection And a nice surge protected power plug

    Power-One power supply mod

There is some fantastic info being shared here by the gurus. But I think I must start a new thread about my pending build so at least the info fits in with the heading.

    Power-One power supply mod

It's so nice when you come across honourable people these days. Manufacturer will take back old transformer, give me a 240Va version and I pay the difference.

    Power-One power supply mod

Well, you guys were correct. Manufacturer states the 120Va is shared by the secondary's:( Some serious negotiation coming up.

Thanks hevans1944. Wise words as always. I'm only shooting for 3A. I am learning quite a lot already. I have started putting this circuit in LTSpice so I can see if the simulation matches what I read on the pcb. Lol, and I have also learned something about speccing transformers and how difficult...
