    Voltage Amplifier Stage (VAS) design

You're a health nut! Actually this gives me inspiration. You know all those public service slots like "Running To Beat Heart Disease", etc? Well "Cycling To Save Hops, Barley, Grapes, etc" is an admirable cause. After all, what would the "Last Supper" have been without them? :D Chris

    Voltage Amplifier Stage (VAS) design

Ha, there are quite a few EP VIP members (including some in administration) that are active supporters of various growers world wide. We should all be very proud to be activists! I know I am!:) Chris

    Voltage Amplifier Stage (VAS) design

Adam, I haven't been following this thread closely but judging by his schematic I think Q1, Q2 are the output stages and R16 (4Ω) is the speaker load. Then again it's Sat afternoon (raining) here and I'm doing my best to support the grape growers of the world. :D So, I may read this tomorrow and...

    4 state illumination controller

Oops, I forgot something.. Take a look at the Puck DataSheet (Figure 3.) 'Output current vs. control voltage' and tell me what values of CV you would like. Chris

    4 state illumination controller

OK, I need some clarifications. Since all the incarnations of the 4017 discussed here can provide 10 outputs is 4 all you want? I can design the circuit with more if you like. Currently I'm designing the circuit to provide 5 states, where Q(0) runs the puck wide open. IE CV=0V. The next 4...

Alec confirmed the chip for you but your circuit design needs invasive surgery. :D I'll draw it up for you. Chris

    Voltage Amplifier Stage (VAS) design

Those are very good points Alec but I'm not familiar with Orcad either. Tina (which I use) doesn't default to including temp in their sims but it does provide a temp analysis. Chris

Yup, but we still don't have a name. Chris

That's funny but I've been trapped indoors with the Florida Monsoons, so I'm 3 sheets to the wind on Vino! I'm not sure if I'm dissing anyone. Disclaimer: Uh... never mind. The skies have cleared! I'm outa here and going cycling! :) Chris

AK, the first thing you have to do is tell us your name. You've been here a very short time but it's becoming quite evident that you're going to be a very active and knowledgeable member. I think I can arguably claim the we are the friendliest tech forum on the face of this earth. Many of us...

AK, no I'm not. The circuit simply demonstrates how Pass Transistors can be used to extend the limitations of a Current Source. CJ will have to modify it to suit his requirements. He will have to take into account the beta of the transistor or transistors used. As I see it his issue was Rsense...

Adam, talk about self serving... I just went back and clicked "Like" on the Steve's, Martin's and your replies to my gripe. :D Chris

    Adjustable Schmitt Trigger Circuit Help

Thanks for the encouragement mates. I guess it's easy to forget that the OP's aren't the only people reading these topics. If someone else benefits that's good too! :) Chris

Yet another OP disappearing act? Sometimes I wonder why I bother. Yet I keep doing it! Chris

Keep in mind that I only included Q2 to demonstrate a High Side current source. You can omit it and drive your laser diode between Vcc & the collector leg of Q1. ;) Chris

    4 state illumination controller

As per my last post I was going to draw up a circuit using transistors to boost the fan-out limitations of the CD4017. I then reconsidered and was going to use an LM324 (Quad OpAmp) to drive the Control Voltage input on the Puck. Glad I didn't bother because there's a higher fan-out equivalent...

It's no wonder this thread seems to be in a quagmire. Here's another design that demands very little power dissipation of Isense (R1). Chris

Evidently you didn't understand my last post. If I find time tomorrow I'll post a schematic. BTW, the 4017 is not an analog device. Chris

Yes, I get that. Can you be more specific about what you're trying to do. There's not much point in substituting a simple inexpensive resistor with a much more expensive solid state device without a good reason. Next & last guess: Are you desirous of controlling the 317 current (via the...
