    Flashing 5watt led?

I'm glad that you got it working and thanks for the pix. I don't understand where you're measuring 1.2 - 1.3V though. Since the circuit's time constants are very brief the only point in this circuit that can be measured reliably with a DVM is between ground and the supply rail. Chris

    Yes, no problem. Chris

Project using a strong 12 volt motor

You can build one but not cheaper than this. Probably not even in kit form. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-40V-10A-Pulse-Width-Modulation-PWM-DC-Motor-Speed-Control-Switch-Governor-/271143411686?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f21681fe6 Chris

    Moving up the chain?

Congratulations! Loving your work is a billion times more important than your new title though. Nothing is more torturous for creative mind than an unchallenging job. ;) Did you get a white lab coat with the title? :D Chris

    Flashing 5watt led?

Keep in mind that when wires cross on a schematic they're not connected if there's no dot at the crossing junction. Chris

cut the power of a LED light from 12v to 500mA

I'm not sure what I read or thought I read that prompted me to post that. I don't see anything in this thread now? Admittedly, I had consumed a fair amount of suds yesterday but I thought it was sensibly balanced with an equally large Pizza! :D Chris

    Flashing 5watt led?

All semiconductors are heat sensitive. You can test the FET by disconnecting R4 from U1-pin 3 and connecting it to the + side of your battery. If the LEDs turn on then the FET is OK. Chris EDIT: Before doing the above test connect a resistor from the gate to ground. . Any value from 100R...

cut the power of a LED light from 12v to 500mA

Honestly guys, this is a first time for me .. really! I thought there always had to be current limiting (active or passive). When I say current limiting I'm including source internal resistance too. I would think that with absolutely no current limiting the source voltage would have to be like...

Newbie question - building a locking circuit

I never said or implied that you're an idiot. In fact I implied precisely the opposite. Your writings tend to lean toward having a physics education? RE "Frog skin": I didn't think we were discussing organic/biological matter. They're riddled with variables and wild cards. Last year I...

    Flashing 5watt led?

It's a test of the LED circuit only. That's what supposed to happen. It indicates that the 555is not gating the FET. Are you sure that the FET is wired correctly? Chris EDIT: Please post a photo of your work.

    Electromagnets Attraction/Repulsion force rate.

I forgot to mention that the spacer is non magnetic. Chris

    Electromagnets Attraction/Repulsion force rate.

I think you can measure this. The attached sketch is very basic but it gives the concept. Chris

Newbie question - building a locking circuit

I always find it fun when introductory statements are prefaced like this. Then, within the same post we see a statement like this. FDC is not exactly a commonly discussed topic. I'd venture to say that you could (I haven't) search this forum for hours for FDC and not get a single hit...

Newbie question - building a locking circuit

It's good to see nubes getting their feet wet with basic circuits. Do you have an arsenal of lab instruments and a machine shop available to you? Chris

    Electromagnets Attraction/Repulsion force rate.

Initially I was not in agreement with your friend until I considered replacing one of the magnets with an equal weight/size iron bar. It will be attracted by either pole of the magnet but not repulsed. Can you surmise where I'm going with this? CYA: On the other hand I might be all wet! ;)...

You don't need the switch to test it. Just jump those two nodes. Chris
