How do I run a 24VAC solenoid off of a couple of 9V's?

You didn't specify whether the Solenoid Valve is part of the rocket or part or the ground based launcher. To function as a rocket I would think that the compressed air is released from an on-board tank. If so, the solenoid valve would also be integral to the rocket. Obviously a large heavy...

How do I run a 24VAC solenoid off of a couple of 9V's?

I believe your solenoid will operate fine from 12VDC to 16VDC but you can forget about using a 9V battery and this is not because of the voltage. 9VDC would probably produce just barely enough current to pull in the solenoid. The problem is that a little 9V battery is not going to maintain 9V...

    diode for collapsing magnetic field

Don, you have a writing style that's quite enjoyable to read. There wasn't a single sentence that needed re-reading for clarification of statement, question or thought. ;) Regarding my skepticism; it's no less at this moment in time than anytime during this thread. I still can't get my head...

    Micro water pump

Thanks CC. I like your photo sensor / punched holes idea too. My wife has used these little kits to make quite a few needle point clock faces. The AA battery runs them for over two years before replacement is needed. Chris

Here are some further thoughts. If the hour hand is replaced with a disk with notches cut in in the circumference a little microswitch will easily switch the motor on and off following the timing sequence set by the notch and notch-less widths. Chris

Included in my 2013 wish list is an Electronics Point's web server filter that rejects topic titles like this one. It all but completely neuters our search engine when searching by title. Chris

    Micro water pump

Short of a microcontroller there are no off the shelf chips that will be suitable. Here's a thought though.. You can buy an inexpensive 1.5V clock movement like some of these. http://www.klockit.com/depts/dept.aspx?dept=157&order=pop&show=12&page=1 The hour hand can be used to close and open the...

    Remote Glow Plug Ignitor

Since a hi current Lipo is going to take up a bit of real estate anyway have you considered a two battery system? A small 9V battery can power the 555 while a 1.5V cell can drive the glow plug. Cheap too! ;) Chris

    Remote Glow Plug Ignitor

This topic surprises me because I've observed the radio controllers near me. The battery packs that they use to heat the glow plugs are quite large and heavy, so I never questioned why they've never been integral to the aircraft. It's a hobby that considers every gram of weight. Admittedly, I'm...

    Flashing 5watt led?

The data sheet certainly does show the dimensions. I looked at it and the OD is 2.75 inches. Since my circuit pulses the LED's with a very short duty cycle they will be running much cooler than with constant current. I know that there's a simple formula to calculate what your average power will...

How do I prevent LEDs from dimming?

Besides what Dave advised I'd like to add not to expect much juice from a 9V battery. They have their place in electronics but not as a powerhouse. Chris

Simply relay circuit - help please

I can't say if this is true or not but I do know that all pertinent information is important to include in our threads. I'm sure you'd agree. ;) If your port is 5V PWM it can be used with a 12V wallwart and a transistor switch. It will essentially produce a 12V PWM signal to the motor. Chris
