    diode for collapsing magnetic field

I mentioned this before but maybe not as clearly. I don't think that the back emf of the relay coil ever comes close to what it would be if it was an open circuit when the pressure switch opens. I say this because the 1N4001 diode on the right provides a current path through two resistors and...

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

I just realized that you should have a panel lamp to indicate when power is on. Sorry but your Chemtron didn't have one so I can't re-purpose an existing component. Here's a link to a suitable lamp. I've updated the schematic to indicate it...

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

Yes, relay 2CR should have 8 terminals, 2 terminals are the 115VAC coil, while the remaining 6 are double pole double throw contacts. S1 is a double pole single throw switch. It has 4 terminals. S2 is a double pole double throw switch with 6 terminals. When I drew the schematic I retained the...

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

The 2CR relay will have a 115VAC coil and should be marked as such. By the way the old girl looks great! Nice restoration!! Is that a 1-1/2" spindle? Chris

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

Well P1 is as big as I imagined it to be. It's too bad you don't have the schematic of the speed control module, we'd love to see it. Here's how I would wire it using original components only, Chris

complete noob with electronics! help with basic motor control, please?

Someone might say it's possible but its about as likely as finding that helpful techie at Radio Shack. :D That's enormous travel for a solenoid. They weaken dramatically as the stroke increases. Chris

Ditto to what CC said but what schematic are you talking about? Chris

    10 Ohm 100W Tapped Resistor

I do business with MPJA often. They sell a mixed bag of new, surplus and factory closure or overrun components. Some of the items that I would classify as surplus would be an item like this. Lets face it, you don't see these every day, especially at this price. You can bet when they're gone...

Read the Picaxe data and download the free software. Picaxe doesn't require any programmer hardware other than a serial cable and a couple of resistors and a diode. Chris

    Need help with microswitch wiring

The switch isn't clear enough to see how it's wired. In fact, if you didn't tell us otherwise I would have guessed that it was an in-line fuse holder. Chris

Opening the circuit as soon as it reaches 1.2 amps???

The Author Ron opined about the possibilities of employing a comparator but I don't know if he ever pursued it. Sensing would probably have to be picked off the low side though. ;) Chris

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

Please post a photo of the P1 'Speed Control Pot'. If it's really 25W it's going to be a large wire-wound pot. For the record; if it is 25W then the speed control circuit is very primitive and very inefficient. That's a lot of wasted power! Chris

Can we get back on Earth here? This is the proverbial "Cart before the horse". Before you loose sleep over where to purchase the parts, it might be helpful to know what parts you have to purchase. This is usually determined after someone has given you a circuit. Chris

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

The Barrier Block is a black Bakelite terminal block marked 1 thru 8 in the left photo. The part connected to the switch on the right is a Selenium Rectifier, which is unmarked but in series with 1TD coil on your schematic. The component on the left connected to S1 is a Varactor Diode...

Chemetron wirefeeder - trying to salvage dc motor speed control

You're also going to need a DPDT switch for use as a FWD/REV switch. We might be able to replace S1 and CR2 with a DPDTCO switch but we need the motor info. Post the motor specs. Brian, your invited to join us. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/loganlathe/?yguid=197128120 Yes, I'm...
