I want to use a few 3mm LEDs with holders to provide back light for car door handle. Water and moisture ingress is going to be the biggest problem. But if I was to drill a hole and surface mount the led holder then pop the led in from the rear. Technically is the front some shaped resin bit of the LED water and moisture proof? If I was to use car sealant glue from the rear to cover the entire wire all the way to the base of the dome shaped bit will that be safe for the led?

So basically if lets say the two contacts going into the led itself where fully covered and sealed up and only the lens part of the led was to be exposed to moisture will it be fine?

Forget the holders, silicone seal the LEDs into the holes from the rear.
Or use LED strip.
Many used for auto application and are waterproof.
Just need to get the connections into a dry location.
