Yes, it is. You spend time here defending your beliefs, helping
technically when you can, and criticizing those who disagree with
you. Admittedly that's not _all_ of life, but it's a good part of
it.

moved beyond that.
Banks can help create wealth by financing businesses. Big lending and
micro-lending can both be useful, and in some situations are necessary
to get things going.
But the interest they charge is just shuffling, and doesn't create
wealth.
We were walking down Church Street (see "Sister Act", that's the
neighborhood) this afternoon. There were, in about 6 blocks, three or
four nail/hair salons open and busy, two gyms, and two chiropractors,
all arguably unnecessary service jobs. Is having your nails done, or
getting a bikini wax, "wealth"? If you enjoy it, I think it is.
Once a society produces plenty of goods and food, using only a small
fraction of the available labor, the rest have to do something.
On exactly what basis do you make that assertion ?
How about telling that to those who believe in the power of 'service industries'

A British pint is 20 fl oz and a decent lager such as Stella Artois is £3 (~USD 6)
in the local venue I frequent. Less in some other places.
One little irony is that burning down a house and rebuilding it adds to the
official productivity.
