Simple but sophisticated lab Power Supply

YOU can have a very cheap power supply from TI's  Isolated DC/DC Converter IC's Series.  One such chip is

PT4310 Series —48V 6-W Low-Profile Dual-Output Isolated DC/DC Converter

Its main features include
• Dual Complimentary Outputs
• Wide Input Voltage: 38 V to 75 V
• 1,500 VDC Isolation
• 9 Pin DIP Package
• No External Components Required

As TI people are very generous in distributing there samples, so u can have a sophisticated lab Power Supply with almost no effort.

Well I think this could be a bit of a language missunderstanding. I would probably consider this to be sophisticated in as much as it is all in one and not agricultural having 50 discrete components. I think Ante maybe confusing sophisticated with complex.

It is not a sophisticated lab power supply circuit.
1) It has hardly any output current.
2) Its voltage regulation is not nearly as good as other voltage regulator ICs.

An LM317 is sophisticated and is complex internally but its circuit is simple externally. It works much better.

Actually I am annoyed with those bulky high current transformers.  Therefore any circuit which doesn't require a transformer is a SOPHISTICATED circuit to me. 

I am looking for high capacity, high voltage non-polar caps to increase current capability.

You are looking for an expensive, bulky and dangerous capacitor that won't last very long to replace a very safe and reliable transformer.

I think this device is advanced compared to a 7812. As Muhammad says there is no need for a transformer so compared to older style powersupply modules thats pretty advanced.

And agricultural just means thrown together or bread boarded type construction. Maybe a bit of an Australianism.
