Hi everyone,

I have an old 1979 Lafayette stereo receiver that just recently suffered from the results of a lightning power outage. My problem is that i can hear sound very little when I have the volume to its maximum setting.
Could this be a Transistor problem, Op-amp or something else?

regards,

Den

It sounds like the output transistors are destroyed, they might be power MOSFETS but I don't know if they were around back in 1979. Take the cover off and have a look at the part numbers on the transistors near the speaker output they might be attached  to a large heatsink.
