jhimpex
Hi! I am working on a custom made capacitor discharge projection weld machine. Can any one guide me with a schematic circuit required for this. The machine shall have an input voltage of 220V AC and the required power at weld point shall be 30000A, 1.5V DC.Thanks
audioguru
Are you serious? The starter motor in your car draws about 100A. Its wires are as big as a pencil. You want 300 times more current? ???
jhimpex
Hi! This project is nothing to do with car battery etc. This is an industrial machine for use in projection welding.
audioguru
I compared your project to a car starter motor because they both use high current at low voltage. The wires on a car's starter motor are quite large. Your wires must have about 300 times the cross-sectional area. Bigger than train tracks, I guess.Speaking about trains, A diesel-electric locomotive uses a lot of current and its voltage is controlled I think with PWM. Find out about them. ;D
ante
Hi jhimpex,Where do you find capacitors with that low ESR and which can cope with the discharge current??
Guest 123robot
Hi ! , did you really want to deal with about 45 kilowatts ? That's more energy in a single (fews milliseconds ???) discharge, than an average house in north america consume in a 24 hours period !!!Maybe that's why "capacitor discharge projection weld machine" are not accessible , personally i've never heard about that kind of stuff. dan
gortmagnussen
Is what you are talking about a stud welder (used to spot weld threaded studs) onto e.g steel sheet ?
ante
Yes Mr. Magnussen, ;D I think that’s what it means. Any suggestions? 8)
awright
jhimpex, the book you really, really need is, "High Speed Pulse Technology, Volume III, Capacitor Discharge Engineering," by Frank B. A. Frungel (with umlaut over the u).
