Ritmo2k
I have been out of electronics for too long. Can someone point me to a definition to understand what a +/- powersupply is, and how you attain it? Specifically like a computer type switch mode ps, what does a +5 and -5 volt mean? And I dont mean the generic polarity of a trivial ps either;->Thanks
indulis
A power supplies output is only the voltage potential between the terminals. It's polarity is determined by which terminal is used as the reference.
prateeksikka
just for a beginner :for any circui to function with reliablity except for special autotransformers,+/-5V is equivalent to 0 and 10V supply.potential difference requires no reference but a potential does.thats it. ;D
EdwardM
Hi Ritmo2kI've tried to answer what I think is your question with a diagram...+5v means a positive supply relative to some common terminal and likewise -5v means a negative supply relative to some common terminal.Hope that helpsEd
prateeksikka
i always compare voltage with water levels.believe me there is perfect analogy.ive seen peopleconverting electrical problems to hyraulic problems and solve them.!!!!!!
