    120 x 3 = 360w bulb in series. 100w for a short time should be no problem. As always, be aware you are "playing" with mains supply here and it IS lethal, especially in the wrong hands.

    Unlikely an induction motor from a dryer would work as a generator. When you select the correct type of motor, consideration will need to be given to the gear-up speed requirements and the fact that most human male output power is around 100w maximum and for a limited time.

    Just wondered if you are allowing enough time for the cap to charge or discharge..? Problems on breadboards usually point to bad connections somewhere.

    Resistor is beyond recognition. Given it was mains related damage then probably gone beyond repair. Chances are other associated components blew up at the same time. Quite usuable multimeters can be had for as little as $20.

    How come these alligator clips only transfer electricity when swapped at the battery terminals?

    Given it is solar related, guessing there will be a diode in there somewhere. All I can see is a barrel plug and jumper clips, no idea what goes where from your photo. Normally would expect negative on the outer sleeve of the barrel plug.
