Building a New Fish Tank Stand

I used to run all my tanks to a standard wall socket. The largest setup I had was six 36"x18"x12" tanks in a custom built steel stand. Pump, filters, heaters/thermostats, and lights etc were wired to a junction panel and then just a single cable to the closest wall socket. I got the local...

    Is a 3000 watt 12v to 120 inverter really just 2 1500 watt inverters ?

Why not just use a 12v winch if you don't have a genset on board?

Why do I get different readings from parallel-connected stopwatches?

Agree with Dave on reed relays possibly being the problem. Mechanical devices are probably not a good idea when high accuracy is required. Also 5v reg has to start up and output a signal to the three reed relays. Could there be an occasional slow output voltage rise here causing the reed relays...

    Generator Problems and Connection

Haven't had the misfortune to work on any of those small cheap Chinese generators. My guess is that parts, and service information, could be major issues. Probably cheaper to bin it, than trying to source parts to repair or modify it. The Chinese generators I work on have engines and...

    Generator Problems and Connection

www.haiwaytech.com/site/files/dse6010-20-manual.pdf Link to manual for the 6020. Do you have the contactors, or have they been taken with the controller? You will need a registered electrician to connect the mains wiring.

    Generator Problems and Connection

Link to DSE6020 on Deep Sea Electronics website, https://www.deepseaplc.com/genset/auto-mains-utility-failure-control-modules/dse6020mkii The 6020 is an Automatic Mains Failure unit. If the mains fail it will automatically disconnect the mains breaker, start the generator, and when the...

    24v battery charger

A 24v battery charger will charge at about 28v. Connect the charger to the batteries and check the voltage. If possible also connect an ammeter to check the charge current.

Led turn on when car interior lights turn on

Don't overcomplicate this modification. Just connect the LED's in parallel with the interior lights. The door switches should be able to handle some extra current from a few LED's. How much current do they draw? The other thing I would suggest is to replace the dull interior light bulbs with...

Led turn on when car interior lights turn on

Are you wanting to add some bright LED lights because the factory interior lights are not bright enough?

How sweet it is to be an idiot

Man that must have taken a while to write! Pity they didn't spend a little extra time to put it into a form that was easier to read. Was interesting to read that the lunar module had an accent, and I had better put my hard hat on in case one of those moon rocks comes my way. Oh well, it takes...

    Solenoid Valve Checker

As Harold advised an LED can be connected across the solenoid coil to indicate that the solenoid is electrically activated. But, you also need a sensor after the valve to confirm that the valve has actually operated correctly. The sensor would need to indicate that the valve is fully open...

Cruise control for fly by wire motorcycle

Sorry, I haven't had the displeasure to work on motorcycles. Most common automotive TPS units that I see are supplied with 5v and output a voltage depending on throttle position. Output range is usually about 0.5v at closed throttle and increasing to 4.5v at full throttle. Different...

How Can I Bypass This Timer?

Just make sure that your batteries are fully charged and in good condition before leaving it on all night. Last thing you need is trouble starting the engine on a cold morning because the blanket has taken the edge off the batteries. Hopefully the diesel heater doesn't break down very often.

    Solid state solution advice

I have been thinking about doing this to the wife's new Toyota. Do you have a single normally open momentary fold switch that does both fold and unfold? Have you checked that the door lock outputs are positive for both lock and unlock? How long do the door locks keep this output live? Relay...

Car head unit - Slow USB charging

Those cables are to power a device, usually an external hard drive, from two USB ports on a computer to get sufficient power output. Not sure I would recommend using one to solve your problem by taking power from two different sources.

    Dpdt relay omron MY2N 240vac 24vdv

Just wondering whether it is a good idea to have 240vac and 24dc on different contacts of the same relay. A little too close together for my liking. My preference would be two relays, one with 240vac contacts and the other with 24vdc contacts.

Speakers + headphones at the same time

Don't know about power generated, but some of them sure produce quite a bit of sound energy!

    Laptop won't do anything.

The IT guy at work often uses my compressed air gun to clean out laptops and PC's. My air gun is adjustable, but pretty sure he just pulls the trigger full on. You can here the fan spin. It is amazing how much dust comes out of some of the PC's.

Getting USB power from car's fuse box

Just run a wire off the spare live #1 connector through a 2A fuse to a cig lighter socket. Put the fuse as close as possible to the fusebox. You will also need a negative earth wire secured directly to the car chassis.
