Didn't know there was such a thing as a desoldering iron. Might have to buy one as a Xmas present for myself?

    Open door buzzer circuit help

My understanding of magnetic reed switches is that the Normally Open(NO) and Normally Closed(NC) refers to the contacts when a magnet is NOT present. I assume that the magnet and switch will be together when the door is closed and will separate as the door is opened? I believe that you need a NC...

    EFI governor help

These governors are usually for diesel engines used on gensets or pumps etc that operate at a pre set speed. ACT = actuator to move the engines throttle lever. See Woodward DYNA for examples. MPU = Magnetic Pick Up on flywheel. Senses starter ring gear teeth. Remote Speed Pot may only give...

    USB to RS232 adapter

We use Digitus DA-70156 USB to serial converters at work. They seem to work well on the newer laptops that don't have serial ports.

Low oil warning /cut-out on portable gasoline generator

Andre, "... its been running like this for almost ten years and I never had to top up oil in ten years!" I hope that means that you haven't had to do top ups between the regular oil changes?

    Alarm Dilema

Haven't used many SCR's, but I was always told to connect a resistor close to the SCR across the gate and cathode to stop false triggering. From memory this was referred to as RGK? This resistor would be across C2. R1 and R2 may need to be lower resistance to compensate for this added resistor.

    Buying components from China.

I haven't had too many issues buying individual components from China. Did get some ATmega328P (Auduino) IC's that didn't have the bootloader, but that was easily cured. Just look for a supplier with lots of orders and read the feedback. I have been buying repeats of a dc-dc converter module...

    Circuit failure indicator

Sorry guys, but I'm going to attack this from a different direction. Above suggestions indicate the electrical operation of the coil, but don't indicate the mechanical operation of the valve. My suggestion would be to put a pressure switch on the output of the solenoid valve to make sure that...

    Car radio wiring

I might be getting old and blind, but I can't see an external negative connection in the diagrams, so would assume that the case was the negative/ground. As advised this is usually not an issue when fitted to a negative earth car, provided that the radio is electrically connected to the car...

Help with alternator to battery bank wiring

Sounds like you have it wired correctly. What size lamp have you got on the "L" terminal? Should be about 2-4watt. What is the history of the alternator?

    Temperature 'sender' (sensor) Custom Replacement?

"(old one reads "open", so gauge is always pegged on 'Hot')" "Cold (25C): 43 ohms. Hot (110C-ish): 0 ohms." Like Blujets, I think that there is a contradiction here. What is the model etc of the digger? Is this a Mitsubishi digger with Cat badges? What is thread of sender?

    Troubleshooting a diode voltage drop

I used to fit a diode as a crowbar to protect against reverse polarity in the modules I build at work. I changed to fitting in series diodes after getting a couple of units back with blown diodes because the "highly trained intelligent operators" had put the batteries in reversed. I also fit...

Charging an iPod from 12V in a car

The regulator inside the iPod will limit the charge current to a safe rate that doesn't shorten the battery life. Using a higher rated charger/adapter will probably allow for faster charging. Depends on the size of the original charger.
