    Question on reversing polarity for DC Motors

    I'd probably use 2 control relays with latch contacts one for each direction (polarity) and use a off delay timer in series that would break its run time after x duration of run time. I don't know what current it will draw, but you may only need small ice cube relays.

    It has molex connector with both 12v and 5v on it. Chop off the end strip back a few inches and tie it in in as needed. I'd probably add an inline fuse on the 12v output for safety. About 3/4 amp fuse would be ideal. You could add one to the 5v output also but I wouldn't say it's mandatory.

    1) No, 10a is the relay rating. Up to 10 amps of current. 23a is the battery model number. Its 12v DC and the current drawn is determined by the load of the RF xmitter.     That's a horrible sign. I'd guess there's dirt or corrosion on the bearings, magnet or spring. I'd be hesitant to cleaning it because it may throw off calibration. You could try feeding a extremely low frequency signal (a few hz at obviously limited current) to see if a back and forth needle...

    I would do some tests to make sure the meter itself is working properly. I imagine even a high quality jeweled movement can be compromised by corrosion even when sealed. It would suck to rebuild that thing only to find out that the needle movement sticks.

    Cables ran parallel are more likely to have noise introduced via capacitive coupling. In other words, grouping sensitive video cables along with conductors that may have ignition noise should be avoided if possible. Best place for filtering is as close as possible to the camera and monitor.

    Definitely sounds like emi from ignition. Hopefully the problem will go away when you get rid of the interference. Good idea with the ferrite coils but perhaps they are too small?     You need to isolate downstream loads to try and find what's overloading it. I would start by disconnecting the secondary side of transformer and see if you still blow fuses. If so, it may have shorted windings. If not, measure it's output and start looking for something on the secondary side...

    Tiny smd capacitor in center of picture goes across the 5v power rail of Pin 17 Vcc (+) and pin 18 is Gnd. If you follow the traces back to cable pins you should know how it connects.

    You can also use clip on heat sinks or alligator clips on some components to help dissipate heat away. For hot air soldering you can use Kapton tape as a heat shield to help protect sensitive components.
